Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game /

Well, having played Everquest for a while, my graphics drivers are up-to-date, but I think the problem might be my Vid Card itself (I believe it\'s from a ColecoVision). In any case, I managed to see the screen in SafeMode, but it\'s horribly slow once I actually log into the game itself. I\'m pretty sure it\'s just a matter of upgrading my machine, but thanks for your help none-the-less.  :)

I read over the FaQ section, and a couple of pages of this and didn\'t see my problem, so here goes:

I downloaded the game and changed the compatibility to Windows 98/me (I\'m running XP).

Pentium III - 2.5ghz
ProSavage S3 DDR
DX 9.0b
250mb RAM

Now, when I load the game (and get to the screen with the 3 gems), the only thing I can see are the 3 gems; the rest of the screen is white. Then, when I click on the character creation gem, I see little arrows (no text) and a character model; the rest is white screen. Any idea how I may fix this? Thanks for any help you can give. I haven\'t had a chance to connect yet and try this game out.  :)
