Greetings PlaneShifters! A new release is ready for you to download.

This release cannot be updated through the PSLauncher, so you have to download it from our Download page.

Here is the list of changes for 0.7.40:

Many textures have been upgraded in quality. Now we use higher resolution textures, but still very reasonable in terms of hardware requirements. Upgrades include hydlaa west, hydlaa east, jayose library, kadael tavern, laanx temple, bronzedoors and ojaveda (only base sandstone).
Changed hydlaa external walls textures and main city doors with higher quality ones
Increased texture resolution of some tools
Added small gardens to main hydlaa plaza, changed the fountain gems

Expanded Levrus magic shop, there is now more space, and also some higher resolution textures

Simplified crafting. in the crafting book window, there is now the possibility to check if tools and materials are available to complete the crafting, by checking the surroundings and your inventory. After the check is successful a new "prepare" button shows up in the same window, to move all the required materials in the crafting container.

Added Gamma to the Setting window
Added /screenshot command. You can use also with "nogui" parameter to take a clean screenshot without user interface.

Improvements to Dryken plane, more hints, one more tutorial message, new reference points (planets)

Improved message when you already at max faction score
Fixed issue with chat logs

Well met friends! A new release is ready for you to download.

This release can be updated through the PSLauncher, but if you want, you can also downloaded it from our Download page.

Here is the list of changes for 0.7.39:

Some merchants are now faction aligned. They will give you better or worst prices when buying based on your faction alignment with them. You can see this information at the bottom of the merchant window and trading with them
Added overall discounts for factions and possibility to have certain items you can buy only if you have a certain faction reputation. The idea is to have certain high quality items sold by merchants only if they like you
Merchants can completely refuse to trade if the faction reputation is too negative

We added magical trails following the weapon swing. The trails are divided in tiers based on the rarity of the enhancement. If the weapon has more than one enchantment, the most rare one will define the trail type.

Improvements to combat:
- Added 2 more animations for melee attacks
- Added the left hand animations for melee attacks, you can now finally see the proper animation when attacking with the second hand
- Added the ability to use your shield as a defense. Put it in your left hand, then in combat mode you can right mouse click and use the shield.
- Changed all shields to be equip-able only in the left hand

Added new capabilities to prevent access to containers based on a certain condition, example a certain faction reputation. This allows for example to have a chest or a bookshelf inside a faction hall, that will be accessible only with a certain reputation score.
Fixed a bug in assigning faction points through quests

Fixed casting of offensive spells through shortcuts
Fixed bad bug of items disappearing in containers when trading exchanging over capacity
Fixed the train stat window, to show all the stats available, clicking on train will now give proper messages based on your rank or faction scores
Fixed helm position for lemur characters
Fixed the idle animation not to be played while moving
Created new GM panel to simplify setup of items for in game events
Added ambience music to Dryken Plane and added music volume reduction during dryken plane voiceovers
Changed the way icons show in the right-click context menu. Now Use is shown only when meaningful
Changed the way icons are displayed for containers. The right-click context menu doesnt show combine and use. Those are only in the container window
Removed all icons from container window when you open it from your inventory, as those are not relevant
Fixed crash on NPC exchange when not part of a tribe
Fixed crash of newly created familiar, which is then fed and crashes

Here is the list of changes for 0.7.38:

Some work on the tribes system:
- Fixes to tribes, building houses, and reproducing
- Added gobble craft animation
- Fixed and updated tribes to properly reproduce and build huts
- Fixed bug on teleport when NPC cant move
- Fixed tribes to allow dynamic tribe members. Tribe will restart from initial state when server restarts

You can now attack items which are flagged as attackable (example the gobble tribe huts or campfire)
Added HP bar with blue color for buildings and attackable items
Added (some) sounds when attacking buildings

Improvements to shortcut bar:
- Changed weird azure color
- If you try to assign a key that is already assigned it tells you which shortcut
- Fixed bug in shortcuts after 10 not keeping the key bindings
- removed ability to change quickbar key bindings from settings, but list all the ones assigned there
- Fixed assigned keys not properly showing in Macro Editor
- Each character will now use a separate macro file
- If no specific file is found, the default macros.sav is used (to ensure not losing your shortcuts with the this new release upgrade)

Greetings PlaneShifters! We just released a new version with some nice additions and fixes.

This release cannot be updated through the PSLauncher, so please downloaded it from our Download page.

Here is the list of changes for 0.7.37:

Added option in settings to control camera lag. NOTE: Please go to Options -> Controls -> Camera Lag setting, and set it to like 30% of the slider. This will give you the same result as previous release.
Added new Observatory, replacing the dummy model. Add new furniture, stairs model, new furnace, new lamps, ...
Added new baskets, new basin, painting frames, metal parts, tray, constellation globe, ... for now these are used in the Observatory, but in the future may also be used by players.
In the Stone Labyrinths initial area, now Xiosia appears to the player three times and speaks about the past and the future.
Added integration with Discord for help channel (experimental). Whatever is typed in the HELP channel is sent to #ingame_help channel in our Discord server. This is done so that people can see if someone is asking for help and login to help!

Recalculated the faction score for all players, as there was an error in the script generating the scores.
Fixed error in teleport at Xenak
Fixed error in rankup window, which was triggering twice and leaving one rankup window on screen.
Added new backpack model.
Fixed crash in the functionality showing descriptions of world locations
Fixed teleport of new players to the safe location in the sector (was not happening)
Added all new homeworld story voiceovers, now all character creation is properly voiced over
Fixed legs for Nolthrir male and female.
Added door sounds to pretty much all the doors in game, it's randomized and doesn't happen all the time.
Fixed interact distance on interactable objects to be more correct.
Updated Dryken plane rocks with better ones
Added particle effect to Dryken plane when blocking walls disappear to simplify finding the exit

Added new area just after character creation. When you exit from the Dryken plane you are teleported to an area in the StoneLabyrinths, where you will have to find your way to an outpost.

Added two missing wandering NPC selling the main map pieces.

Fix to all windows to avoid keyboard focus, which was causing some incosistencies in moving your character vs using the UI.
Fixed combat mode, you cannot select yourself anymore
Terraforming of the area to the north east of hydlaa, breaking the original boundaries imposed by the old game map.
Fixes to dryken plane, simplified jump on first shard, changed the downward lift of the second shard making the puzzle smoother.
Split of Hydlaa levels in two, above ground and below ground. Hopefully this will improve performances.
Fixed pressure pad so it cannot be triggered by right-click and then "use".
Switched icon for "use" on container window
Loot window now closes when there are no items left
Fixed "rename" button so it shows only on renamable containers.

Greetings, we have just released a new version of PlaneShift! This release is a transition release, with the sole objective to bring the game to Unreal engine 5. There are no PlaneShift specific new features or changes as part of this release.

Nonetheless it is a very important release for us, as it will enable new elements to be added in the future with more ease and using latest technology. We upgraded the whole game to Unreal Engine 5.1.1. Has not been an easy switch, because even if Epic advertises this as a seamless migration, it required some troubleshooting and inventive, also we had to learn some new elements.
The first thing we tested when moving to Unreal engine 5 was World Partition, which is the new way of managing large open worlds. We converted all our levels to it, but immediately encountered issues. In particular World Partition doesn't support Static Lights at the moment, which is a way for us to keep the hardware requirements low. Second it corrupted some of the levels, and the landscape had to be repainted/fixed, third it seems not possible at the moment to have non World Partition levels loaded in shipping release together with World Partition levels. This means our game start level where you login was not packaged properly and was not working. These issues let us decide to avoid World Partition from now, until it's more stable/compatible. We will definitely check it again in the future.

We restarted the migration, this time with World Composition, the same we used in UE4, and things went better. Then we had to re-patch the engine with our specific changes, and fix again some of the known issues, such as the XML parser, the tool-chain on Mac and the Mac mouse cursor. After that part was working, we had to test the final packaging on Windows, Linux, Mac. This is were we hit another big problem on Mac, as the compiler coudn't for some reason properly compile for Intel chips. Our Mac release is done for Intel chips, so that both Intel and M1 hardware can run it. After a lot of trial and error, we discovered a bug in the base engine, and found a workaround, so all was finally solved!
Given the amount of features present in PlaneShift, will be important if you could test it well, so we can find any issue before the next release.

Known issues
  • There is a significant known problem with lights, as the convertion between UE4 and UE5 broke many lights, and it seems to behave differently between different platforms. Example the Laanx temple is very dark on Windows, but it's extra-lit on Linux and Mac. We already did some investigation on this, but it requires more work to find a good and stable fix. We decided to release anyway to avoid further delays and allow everyone to test the new release giving feedback.
  • Even if we did a number of tests with medium hardware on all platforms and the FPS were pretty much identical, it seems UE5 raised the bar a bit on the hardware, and some low end PC may have trouble running it. Please test the game on different hardware and let us know in the linked forum post above the results.

New PlaneShift features
None. I'm mentioning this again to be clear, this was a technology only release.

What benefits we get from Unreal Engine 5
  • All plugins are available in the upgraded UE5 version, including the one we use for character movement, and the voice chat. Upgrading will require some work, but will bring benefits. This is something we will work on soon.
  • Metasounds is a complete new system for audio, and we want to use it for musical instruments. The ground work is done already as we tested it in UE5 some months ago. This will enable musical instruments in game again!
  • There is a new Water system that could improve lakes and rivers. We didn't test it much yet, so has to be discovered to see how stable, performant and usable it is.
  • New particle system Niagara. Improved, more flexible and provides better results, we could covert all our visual effects (spell effects mostly) to the new system.

Hello PlaneShifters, it happened!! It really happened! After four years, the switch from Legacy to Unreal is here!

This is very historical moment for everyone who worked on this project. PSLegacy is now fully replaced by PSUnreal in it's new 0.7.30 version. This means your character has been ported to the new release and you can continue his progression from there. PSLegacy will still be up for some time (weeks, not months) to be used as a comparison in case we need it. This release cannot be updated from previous releases, please download it again from our Download page.

Hi PlaneShifters, we have just released a new version! In the last months we have made the server more and more stable, and we think the game is now ready to be tested by a larger audience. The game is now available to everyone. You can download it for free here. This is a full release, so previous version cannot be updated.

Please note the previous game is still up and running, and it is still the master for all data, accounts included. During this transition period the progress will not be kept in the new game until we will completely migrate from the old game to PSUnreal. If you have an account already for the old game, it will work in the new game with the same password. New accounts need to be created here on our website and will be migrated to the new game regularly, please give it 4-5 hours to be migrated.

Here is the list of changes for 0.7.27:
Added Main Plot to Compendium (first iteration). Click on the third gem in the menu bar, then Compendium, then Main Story. Here you will see entries for each of the important chapters of your journey. In particular you can replay the homeworld story if you have an already existing character.
Changed Compendium home to have desaturate/saturate effect.
Added in Settings the possibility to configure the number of visible shortcut icons. This at the moment is listed in number of lines (where one line is 9 icons). So if you select two lines you will have 18 icons at the same time.
Several fixes to the shortcut bar, mainly in the macro editor.
Made /shout limited to 50 meters. This means shout chat is not global anymore.
Fixed missing shields icons
Updated the character description window. Right click on your character, then EYE icon. It's now divided in three sections: Description, this is the public In Character description people see when they click on you. Second is Out of Character Notes, everyone can see it, and you can place here notes to notify other players about your current status or requests... The thrid tab is Character Background, this is derived from the character creation choices you made. It's prepopulated but if you want you can change it. There is an pencil icon to edit it.
Fixed health bar to update properly when casting spells, and in general when not in combat mode.
Fixed PVP Duels.
Fixed character selection screen to show the proper items (only torch is missing)

Added cache for Compendium to reduce the amount of text sent. It is cached locally on the client.
Enabled NPCs to spawn also in dynamically loaded guildhouses.
Fixed Character Selection, Credits screen all homeworld screens for different resolutions. The UI should not be cutoff anymore when using a non standard resolution.
Added Mac/Windows application icon
Added scrollbars to all popup windows in case messages are longer than available space.
Removed SteamVR and some mobile plugins from the project which were unused, but still taking space.
Fixed dermorian male color bug and dermorian female hair bug
Fixed crashes in combat when a player disconnects.
Set menubar size to be bigger as default
Added Diaboli homeworld story illustrations (only Lemur history is missing at this point)
Fixes to Kadael tavern and Harnquist to avoid getting stuck

We had bugs, now we have fixes! This release is fixing a significant number of problems found in the previous alpha release, and adding new furniture. We also terraformed new parts of the map, added new NPCs. This is a full release, you need to download it, the PSLauncher will not be able to update from previous versions.

Here is the list of changes for 0.7.26:
You can now find pieces of the main world map in existing merchants or new roaming merchants on the roads.
Added new furniture pieces: chair, bench, divider, stand, tables, drawers, round shelf preset.
Added furniture to Delver houses.
Added furniture to Homestead houses.
Added two new NPCs to Delver.
Sentient NPCs will now stop walking when you try to speak with them.
Fixed pet picture, now it displays the proper race in the pet window.
Added total number of quests/events in the quest window.
Fixed death loop teleport in death realm.
Removed the possibility to attack pets.
Increased radius of magic light.
Added Roll for loot buttons when looting in a group.
Disabled spellcasting while on mount.
Terraformed the west outdoor areas by adding roads.
Added more lights to Death Realm for ease of navigation.
Fixed windows title bar to better fit the window, and fixed the problem with the X button to close the window.

Hello PlaneShifters, it's time for a new release! It contains a lot of fixes of the bugs you have found, and some nice quality of life additions. This is a full release, you need to download it, the PSLauncher will not be able to update from previous versions.

Here is the list of major changes for 0.7.25:
Fixed pets not following you and monsters not chasing (NavMesh)
Fixed NPCs not answering to certain questions
Added back the triggers for NPCs at short and long range, so they will speak to players when seen. The triggers are based on sight. If you stay at the back of an NPC the response will not trigger. We also added a timeout of 60 seconds to avoid continuous automatic chat responses.
Added a new functionality to store the location where you last died, and this is used when you resurrect to teleport your character in close to that area (first defined safe location).
Added a color to the inventory slot to indicate if an item is damaged. Orange color is less than 50%, and red color if less than 25%
Added icon in the item description window to repair a damaged item
Added new tutorial messages for connect, first npc, first item, death, etc... Those will explain the basic to new players.
Added Stonehammer and Klyros homeworld screen in character creation
Fixed the speed on mounts, you can now walk/run/sprint also on mounts.
Added new platforms and lifts in the gorge near Amdeneir
Added more information in the help section of the game
Fixed crash on guildmanager when executing some guilds commands
Fixed NPC free text to recognize singular and plural forms (WordNet).
Fixed the Death Realm Curse, its now active after exiting the Death Realm.
Fixed the tooltip for the Active Spells, it was missing in some cases.
Fixed Guild MOTD text to autowrap.
Fixed movement of items inside a nearly full container (ground and inventory).
Fixed name of generic book and score when buying from merchant.
Shift- or Ctrl-Click works also when window is not focused now.
Clear of exchange money slot on new exchange
Fix to the compass being displayed at login
Fixed damage from traps, spells, attacks and script (example potion) while on mounts.
Fixed display of HP and Mana in the group window for yourself.
Prevented mounting when falling down, when crouched and when another player is already using the mount.
Fixed refresh of inventory after repair
Added progress bar while repairing
Added sorting in Spellbook table header
Added sorting of Jobs and Various Skills in Skill's Window
Added sorting of buddies considering online and offline status.
Members in Guilds Window are now alphabetically sorted.
Quests and events are now alphabetically sorted.

Improved lights in Harnquist blacksmith building
Fixed hole in Amdeneir city
Improved Hydlaa Arena central building

Hello PlaneShifters, we just released a update with a lot of fixes! The funny legs bug is gone :) You can get this release by updating from 0.7.21 release or any newers ones by running the PSLauncher program.

Here is the list of major changes for 0.7.24:
Fixed a bug that was causing the legs of all player characters to be floating while moving.
Fixed Rivnak mount movement.
Fixed primary pet camera and light position. It now works with all possible pets.
Enabled /me and /my commands in chat
Improved banking window to make it more clear and simple.
Highlight of chat tabs where you received new messages in a tab that's not open.
Added new functionality when using whisper in chat. The chat now stores the list of players you are speaking with. They appear on the dropdown next to chat text, and you can select their name to quick reply. Last one that wrote to you is selected automatically.
Added Ctrl+Click to get full stack, and Shift+Click to get 1 item of a stack in inventory or containers
Fixes to Guild Window: change Message Of The Day, change guild name and guild website. Added remove member. Remove members, edit their level, edit guild level names, permissions setting. Added Guild edit points and public/private notes.

Increased light in Dryken Plane.
Increased night time light a bit in all levels affected by day/night cycle.Fixed icons for enchanted rings. Fixed crash on examining enchanted rings.
Fixed context menu for pets that are also mounts.
Fixed shortcuts key used to open windows when on mount.
Removed pending messages in speech bubble when creature is dead.
Fixed transform tool locking window drag movement.
Fixed mouse not being able to exit from game window after combat mode.
Fixed some wrong/spammy messages on chat.
Fixed volume of hydlaa music.
Fixed font size for chat bubbles on other characters.
Fixed merchant and banking window to have proper setting of buy/sell tabs, so you don't get errors anymore when trying to buy or store.
Fixed error in inventory leaving the icon in the source slot when moving a full stack.
Fixed Last Login time when character logs in.
Fixed trade item with NPC not showing the item offered.

If you were undecided what to play this summer, fear no more! We just released a new Alpha of PlaneShift, our beloved hand made fantasy MMO. This release introduces juicy new features and some bugfixing! You can get this release by updating the 0.7.21 release by running the PSLauncher program. We also after few days release an update to fix some relevant bugs, the release 0.7.23, you will get it through the updater as well.

Here is the list of major changes for 0.7.23:
Fixed navigation of NPCs, pets will now follow you properly and NPCs will now chase you as well.
Fixed mounts not moving while riding.
Fixed NPCs dialogues, after 0.7.22 they we not answering to basic questions. Now they do.
Fix for pet summon crash.
Fixed few bugs which were preventing day time updates , weather updated, background music updates while riding a mount.
Fixed chat when riding a mount.
Fixed stonehammer char creation stats.
Hide summary stats window before entering dryken plane.
Added pencil icon to shortcut bar.
Removed the stretch of the shortcut bar icons.
Fixed crazy weather that was generating wrong white shapes on screen.

Here is the list of major changes for 0.7.22:

First version of mailing system completed. There are some designated mailman NPCs. They allow you to send and receive mail. Mail can be text, items or coins. You have to check your incoming mail at the mailman NPC, and you can retrieve it. After retrieval it will be in your inventory. There is a new icon in the inventory dedicated to your retrieved mail. Advanced functionality like mail "in transit" and time of delivery is not yet done.
Added ability to sell/buy specific amount of items with "amount" button.
Added Homeworld story screens in the character creation for Enki, Klyros and Nolthrir.
Added text in all character creation homeworld screens, to explain the history of the race (text will be tweaked/improved in the future).
Added help window with some initial data. We have chat commands description.
Compendium: Implemented Examine Creature Discovery. You can now discover information about a creature by examining it. The gained knowledge will go into the Compendium. (we still need to setup the data)
Compendium: Implemented Examine ability also for plants, minerals.
Compendium: Some knowledge of creatures will be gained by fighting them. You will need a certain number of fights to get all the knowledge.
Added new icons for examine creatures.
Added new main map under compendium! You will have to find the map pieces in the world and put them together into a single map.
Fixed a number of waypoints to ensure better NPC movements on our maps.
Changed mouse select so that you cannot select in the 3d world if you are speaking with an NPC or if any of the following windows are open: merchant window, exchange/trade window, mail window. This should remove all the problems of not having the proper target selected and losing the target when left or right clicking.
Improvements to random generated events adding flexibility in their definition. Added possibility to play sounds/music during generated events.
Fixed Lemur plate armor for both male and female.
Fixed some emotes animations to have smoother transition with the idle.
Added 3 new idle animations for humanoid creatures (players and NPC).
Fixed lights on char creation to properly show the character selected.
Fixed group loot.
Fixed scale of NPCs when loaded in random generated events.
Allowed random generated events to be triggered by a group of players as well.

Hello PlaneShifters, here is a new release, fixing lot of bugs of 0.7.19, new lights, new foliage, more terraforming and fixes to playable areas. This is a full release, so you have to download it, the updater cannot update from 0.7.19.

Here is the list of major changes:

Previous light setup didnt work as expected. So we changed it to use "Sparse Volume Lighting Samples" and we relit all maps with this new method. Lights on the character should look better and be consistent with the surroundings (with some approximation).
Improved facing angle checking while in combat to avoid "You must face the enemy" messages.
Improvements to skybox to avoid the horizon white line, and to enhance the cavern/rock walls effect while looking far away.
Added natural mountain boundaries for left and right extremes of the map.
Many areas have been terraformed to improve the look of the landscape, removing all flat and bare areas. There are still a few, but significantly less than before.
Added context menu when right clicking on mounts.
Added a compass to the game! The compass is an item you need to find. It will be part of a quest in the future, for now you can buy it from Toda.
Modified foliage on all maps. Added new foliage types and create biomes for different tree/plant types and associated those to specific areas. For example you will see the area next to the dome wall to have more mountain trees like Juniper, Spruce, ... The Gugrontid area is using more pines/conifer, Hydlaa is using Birch, Elm, ... Ojaveda is using specific ones as well, and palms and cacti for desert areas.
Fixed a problem with NPC navigation on the map. We had some NPC not being able to move due to missing navigation data. This should now be fixed. We still have some movement issues caused by waypoints not properly positioned. This will be fixed next.
Added some point of interest to desert area.
Reduced footstep sound volume.
Added pet talents/abilities, those are now visibile in the pet window for your primary pet. Those are not working yet.
Fixed /pos command while mounted. This fix is going to resolve a number of other issues related to receving messages while mounted.
Fixed the NPC responses to also be present in chat.
Fixed the selection marker displayed under the current target while mounted.
Fixed the pet window to properly show the picture of the current pet. For the primary pet it shows the 3d view, for others a static image.
Fixed magic light, increasing the radius, and lowering rendering cost.
Fixed Action location Use button and View button. Now all tools on the ground should be working (example forges).
Fixed skill window to properly highlight a new ability when obtained.

Map Fixes:
Improvement to landscape to use less texture layers, and improve performances in Ojaveda area.
Bad step in Oja main quarter, reduced sharp slope.
Reviewed lighting in Arena and also fixed path to arena.
Fixes to laanx dungeon collision.
Fixed problem not allowing special attacks on the left hand.
Fixes to laanx dungeon level, including the stairs going to the Windowless Tower.
Tweaks to lighting in laanx dungeon and sewers.
Fixed strange effects by waterfall in Amdeneir map.
Fixed a hole in Amdeneir where players could fall under the map.
Added more lights to Ojaveda map.
Reduced Ojaveda terrain layers.
Klyros female was wrongly using the klyros male robe while its not available yet.
Fixed crash in achievement where a monster dies by himself.
Fixed achievement 1 of each piece of armor. Was triggering wrongly.
Fixed crash of pet trying to eat a torch.
