In-Game Roleplay Events / Player event: Lost in Yliakum
« on: November 25, 2023, 10:06:25 am »
Hi fellow adventurers!

The summoning glyph is still in the process to summon our beloved GM's Uadjet's new mightily powerful PSUnreal client running machine. (For what else would you use a computer anyway  ;D)

But fear not, adventures can still be had!

Already last week we had a nice player event: Daevaorn's Yliakum Quiz: https://www.hydlaaplaza.com/PlaneShift/smf/index.php?topic=43722.0

And this evening, usual time, there is another little player event: Lost In Yliakum.

It has been heard that it might start at the Stonehead Tavern in Gugrontid...

Best of luck and success for you, Uadjet, to obtain your new QC[1]. Looking forward for exploring new realms and mastering new challenges in new adventures as soon as you are back!

In-Game Roleplay Events / Player event: Daevaorn's Yliakum Quiz
« on: November 25, 2023, 09:57:03 am »
Hello fellow travellers!

As the mighty number cruncher of Uadjet broke down and is in dire need for suitable replacement last week we had a nice player event. Daevaorn did a nice question and answer game for us and wonderful prices: "Daevorn's Yliakum Quiz":

An interesting twist to the game was, that in case one gave a wrong answer the opponent got a point:

Thanks, Daevaorn!

In-Game Roleplay Events / She did it again aka Union Day

So it happened that a group of brave people rescued some Pterosaurs from a situation that scared them. [Please do fill in some details, I joined the event very late!]

Of course these Pterosaurs needed to be brought somewhere and while Damola was still in the hospital caring for a patient, she somehow felt that there would Pterosaurs coming to the city. She finished her work with the patient and then looked for them from the city walls. And surely enough she found the group approaching Amdeneir and rejoiced, summoning her drifter Shirwa to get there as quickly as possible.

Eriz was kind enough to let her ride the Pterosaur he rode:

Damola was so happy to ride a Pterosaur again. Happy enough that she did not really care to find the place where they were to be brought to quickly. But eventually she made it to the place and had her drifter Shirwa and the Pterosaur make friends with one another.

Reluctantly, very reluctantly she brought the Pterosaur into the stables, thinking that it would somehow look a bit sad to her:

But before she brought another one into the stables, she flew with it to one of the towers at the city wall of Amdeneir:

She eventually brought it into the stables as well, Gonger standing next to her:

In-Game Roleplay Events / The Sneaky Emerald aka The Tavern Unheard Of
« on: March 16, 2020, 07:49:27 am »
From Damola's diary:

It so happened that I went into our new little sneaky location right in the sight of Amidision. Of course I waited for her to look in the other direction before I entered stealthily:

In the anticipation of our first public opening – public so to say, cause we still needed to go stealthily about it – I brought some more beverages and snacks with me to store them in the house. So I entered the house and rejoiced at what we made out of what have been covered by piles of dust before.

I started to store what I have brought with me as Mishka entered the house.

She told me that they are coming… they? But we did not even set a date for the first opening yet! However she told me a drunken dwarf got banned from Kada El's and she sent a messenger to notify me. However that messenger never found the house it seems.

Well… as I was almost ready with the preparations I thought how bad could it be and hurried up to complete storing what I brought with me.

Soon enough the first people arrived and the place was quite crowded quickly enough. As Mishka sent to groffel to Jocas for me, my love also arrived quite soon. What a happy day! It felt like in the good old times of opening The Red Crystal Den!

Mishka hold a little speach and I also did. I welcomed the people and I reminded about The Red Crystal Den. Also I explained why we likely are going to close down the place after this one grand opening of it. After all, we would need to continue to be sneaky about it or reach a settlement with the Octarchy, which could be difficult even with Jocas help. So glad Jocas tolerated all of this and even supported it generously despite his close relations with the Octarchy. But I also pondered: No matter how long this house has been left untouched, what if someone of its inhabitants come back and find something completely different? I am not sure how I would feel about that. So our intention is to give it back in its original state. I discussed this with both Jocas and Mishka already.

It all went so well. Jocas told some nice jokes. I am certain with one about telling Nolthrir women a joke he wanted to tease me – but I am smarter than falling for that! Gorub told a great story about how Gorub and Gonger faced some fierce monsters. Migg and I played some songs. Eurac told a few more jokes, albeit he appeared to have been quite drunk at that time. Karrt joined us as well and helped me with the bar, so I could have a little quiet time with my loved one as well. He even played some songs himself.

And then a very special little friend also appeared. I did not see this Yulbar for quite a while, but I am totally certain it is the same Yulbar that payed The Red Crystal Den a visit so often just to sneak a little treat. I gave him a Sweet Honey Bread after he already kind of stole one. But how would that little cutie have any idea of what property may be? Also… this house isn't ours to begin with as well.

The Yulbar often came alone, but this time we had a Groffel to accompany it. He visited us as I was with Jocas again.

So what a successful day this was! I can only thank my dear friend Mishka so much for showing me this house. It was unlocked as she found it. And to complete all of the goodness, the Octarchy did not interfere at this beautiful evening. I bet they still did not notice it.

General Discussion / Damola and the Void
« on: February 20, 2020, 05:39:41 pm »
Hi there!

Now what has

and

to do with this

In that last screenshot health is already good again after I cast a really spell. But it really was "0/0" initially, as well as physical stamina, mana and mental stamina.

All the other stuff reappeared after I closed and re-opened the respective windows.

In somewhat like 8 years of playing PlaneShift I never saw this little gem of a bug. I can say I was a bit scared at first and thought whether the database entry for Damola has gone broke.

In-Game Roleplay Events / When a GM leaves early…
« on: May 05, 2019, 04:23:19 pm »
and a certain Nolthrir lady who climbed on roof tops in her childhood could not resist… something like…

could happen.

However sometime thereafter, Damola felt a bit guilty about what she did even tough she knew she would give her back soon. So just in case Dorrun would end up in the house of her guild in his quest to find the missing Pterosaur, she left this note:

Then she went to sleep in the whispering sapphire bed she made.

Surprisingly enough the next day she found that the Pterosaur was still there. She wondered whether Dorrun would not miss her.

She went to the market to meet Larili as usual again. And well, as Larili and her had been up to some jokes before, she could not resist talking to her friend that she likes to show her something. At Larili's curiosity she just smirked and said "You will know it, when you see it."

After the market, Damola and Larili went to Gugrontid to the guild house. As she imagined Larili was quite surprised and even a bit shocked at what Damola did.

However Larili's shock did not last long as Damola offered her the opportunity to ride the Pterosaur. Quickly she would approach the Pterosaur

and mount it.

As Damola checked whether no one would be there outside, Larili and Damola quickly left Gugrontid to a quiet and lonely place aside from Gugrontid.

Larili happily rode and flew the Pterosaur while Damola accompanied her with her Rivnak.

The two ladies enjoyed themselves in Xiosia's creation together with the Pterosaur.

But then there was the time to admit to Dorrun the thievery. So, at first hesitantly Damola wrote a note to him and bound it around the neck of her groffel:

After surprising Dorrun with the Pterosaur – he did not even miss her yet! – Damola flew away with it calling behind herself "Catch me!". Eventually after quite a while Dorrun surprised Damola from behind while Larili was also still around.

The two ladies enjoyed a nice talk with the hammerwielder who was not at all angry at Damola.

Even tough Larili jokingly offered that her and Damola would keep the Pterosaur, in the end Dorrun insisted that the two ladies give it back. So it was time to say goodbye to her. Damola asked about the name of the Pterosaur and learned she went by the beautiful name of Tjen'arolilja (Friendly Wind).

So it was time for a last ride on Tjen'arolilja, to leave her with Gurrok, the Pterosaur Kran in Amdeneir.

As Damola went to sleep again, she wondered whether anyone else might have noticed the additional Pterosaur with Gurrok, before Dorrun picked it up.

In-Game Roleplay Events / First opening of The Whispering Emerald
« on: February 13, 2016, 01:24:04 pm »
Damola sends Elaynne a groffel "Hey, Elaynne, how about opening The Whispering Sapphire for the first time?" smiling happily as she receives "I´d love to for the first time" just a short time later.

The two nolthrir then meet before Harnquist gathering all the necessary furnishings and decorations for their first opening. They carry them all to the gazebo at the side of the Laanx temple.

Arrived there, they build The Whispering Emerald up in no time, knowing exactly where to put what. Damola places the table in the center and puts a Red Crystal Den goblet in its center. On top on it she places three whispering emeralds. Elaynne starts carefully fastening Yarrow flowers and candles between the trees just above where Damola placed the table, while Damola starts arranging carpets and pillows around the table. She first thinks that candles may not be needed yet, as the light of the crystal is still strong. But then she sees how nice the candles look with the yarrows and says "Hmm, I add a candle to the table as well. At least one." concluding after she did so "They illuminate the whispering sapphire so nice."

After a short while the two young women conclude that it is time to open The Whispering Emerald [in case you wonder about whether it is a Emerald or Sapphire, read on :)]. "Okay, I shout out" Damola states excitedly, "I didn´t do this since a long time."

Damola breathes deeply and then shouts with a bright, clear and loud voice "Dear citizens of Hydlaa, dear friends. It is this time…" Damola pauses "Oh no." Damola pauses again, breathing deeply "It is a" she emphasizes "new time! For the first time we, Elaynne and me, open The Green Leavy Den, or will I call it the No Matter What Den, or" Damola pauses again "… I just call it The Whispering Sapphire. We don´t have quite the same amount of choice in drinks and dishes, but we have beer and some tea and some juice and I can also get some stronger drinks, so come on find us near the Laanx temple. I close with a note to the Octarchy, I talked with the hospital staff and its okay and we will certainly clean up after opening the Den again, so no need to interfere."

Elaynne prepares to play a welcome song while also being ready to serve drinks if need be while Damola stores some of the drinks she brought with her in a crate near two barrels. Then the two ladies wait for the first guests to arrive. Luckily they didn´t need to wait for long. Damola and Elaynne welcome them and they both serve the first drinks.

Although everyone except our cute cub Jemima didn´t come close to the table, after some time some guests ordered some drinks while first talks between the guests emerged. Elaynne was playing one nice song after another already.

Damola giggles to Elaynne at some point "Next time we may place the carpets and pillows farer away from the table." Elaynne answered "I was just thinking that myself."

People starting enoying themselves more and more as also some members of the Hammers arrived ordering beer.

Later even our well respected musician, composer and scene writer Grindulf joined the outdoor gathering as Elaynne starts to play another tune. Elaynne and him harmonized well as they played further songs with Grindulf accompanying Elaynne with his drums. Grindulf even gave a first presentation of a song he wrote for his new epic, "The Gorgar Epic".

It got darker and later, darker and later… until Damola and Elaynne decided to announce the last songs. Reluctantly as guests where still hanging around they started packaging all the furnishings and decorations together again. Not without Elaynne giving some of the floating yarrows to one of the guests who asked for some. On their cleaning it all up work Damola found a Sapphire next to the emeralds the places on top of the goblet of the Red Crystal Den. Damola looks at the Sapphire "Oh, someone placed a Sapphire there.", not commenting on it any further, yet taking the Sapphire as well.

Later, as Elaynne and Damola were at their sleeping place for this night, they both where happy that their first opening of The Whispering Emerald has been a great success. Damola enjoyed the freedom to just open a Den anytime and almost anywhere she desires to. Damola and Elaynne drift into sleep.

The next morning as Damola and Elaynne are awake again she ponders "Did I really say The Whispering Sapphire all the time? – Now I understand why someone placed a sapphire next to the emeralds. I bet I have been quite excited about all of this."

In-Game Roleplay Events / Something wierd is going on…
« on: November 02, 2015, 03:43:35 pm »
Something wierd is going when you see…

… a gobble helps spider Damola to put a keg of cider onto a bar table while gobble Weased plays the lute and a maulbernaut also came to help.

Or…

… when tloke Sulaika helps a tefusangling to drink Red Delicious out of a bucket and…

later a gobble tries to help as well, while a maulbernaut helps with transporting a keg of mead

Some favorites of mine during this special opening of the Den´s:

Quote
A gobble begins to whisper something into the tefusanglings's "ear", "If you drink all, you will be a big tefusang."

Quote
Sulaika looks to the Maulbernaut, "Feel free to eat all the cookies. Do you need any drink? I think I have asked this now the third time." The insect blushes in light green color

Hello!

Just as an announcement for anyone who took part in the event but didn´t notice what I wrote to gossip – and also as an more in-depth explaination on why I handle it this way:

ICly Damola did not take part in the event and thus wasn´t blown off by a GM from the bridge and thus also didn´t die.

Why?

Cause for Damola´s character it would be totally inconsistent to go onto such a bridge and let a strong way blow her into death. She is very cautious and she actually still fears DR ICly quite much. There is no way that she would risk her life so easily without any apparent need to hasten that much.

What happened?

I read the warning about the wind, but as player didn´t recognize that the wind would be that strong that it would threaten Damola´s life. I was about to play Damola as cautious, watching whether the defensive wind spell may have worked, stepped back a bit, but before I could finish writing that a GM already blew Damola off into DR. Actually she fell down with me having written half of the reaction.

I didn´t feel like having had enough time to RP my reaction to the wind thing. I´d expected some kind escalation of the warning like "A strong wind comes up and the bridge staggers dangeriously" or something like that together with some realistic time to RP any response to it before Damola being blown of with no chance to react it. For me it as a digital "You are dead". Thats not much fun to RP. And unlike that last time that happened to a char of mine in a pen and paper RP Damola didn´t accuse a God where something like this actually can be realistic.

I tried playing as if Damola really died there this way the GM have blown her off, but it just didn´t work for me, so I am doing what worked before, I am taking Damola out of this RP completely. ICly she wasn´t there, she didn´t die in a way that would be totally inconsistent to her cautious character. Sure she is much into helping others, but without need she wouldn´t risk her life that easily.

This is not up for discussion for me. I will play her this way, whether you respect it or not.

What would probably have worked for me would be:

1) The wind blow would have been totally unexpectable and Damola wouldn´t have had any chance to react to it. Which it was for me OOCly as a player, cause I didn´t notice that the wind was that strong before Damola was blown off without any chance to react anymore, but not ICly as there has been some warning at least even when on short notice. In real life I would have felt the strongness of the wind and sure I would have respected that, but here we just read text, I didn´t grasp the severity of it as a player. What would have helped me to do would have been some escalation of the warnings like "A strong wind arises and the bridges staggers dangeriously" together with enough time to RP my response to it. Sure Damola would have stepped back then.

2) Damola didn´t die on having been blown off. Actually I got the impression on being blown off Damola fell down from quite a distance from the side of the abyss. I had the impression Damola wasn´t that much into thin air already. And that she may would have fallen down but not all of the distance and would have survived it. But as thats just my perception, she may have been off that far already.

So what would have worked for me would be to carefully being able to choose the amount of risk Damola would take. I didn´t feel that I had this option like in other RP events where Damola stayed in the background instead of attacking a strong NPC. I considered to discuss solution 1 with GMs, but I didn´t feel like there would have been a enough time to reach an outcome that would have worked. Solution 2 only came into my mind after I quitted playing PS already.

Again, I am not willing to discuss this. For me as player this experience has been very frustrating and it feels like a punishment for playing out courage with Damola. Yet, while Damola can be courageful, especially when helping others, she also is not that naive to let wind blow her off that easily. So the way I didn´t notice, I didn´t receive the severity of this wind thing as a player while still having a chance to react to it put her in a place where I didn´t know how to play her anymore, even after I tried one idea. So I am doing what recovers her consistency, I take her out of this.

I did take Damola out of RP ICly before, but rarely – in a situation where I thought I wasn´t give a chance to react in a way that would be consistent to her (although back then I might have had such a chance). And there I even still RP´d it in a way, but in a way that didn´t leave the other party a way to react either – it was before I learned that this is important for RP as a player.

If you think me taking Damola out of this event like this is lame or something like that, feel free not to RP with Damola. Its how I play her. I may stay away from events for a while, as taking out Damola out of RP I initially enjoyed like this is quite frustrating for me as a player. But having to play Damola inconsistently with the core of her character for a longer time would be even more so.

That all said: I liked the general idea of the event and I am grateful for GM´s organizing events like that. So do not let my reaction spoil your fun with the event. Just please respect that Damola wasn´t there. (If you don´t respect it I will still play her that way.)

As you may have noticed we installed a kitchen. This was for a good reason. Of course for our cook Kabitar and other cooks who want to help out the Den´s cause to offer a great place to meet and have fun… but also… for the very special

Red Crystal Den Delicacy Cooking Contest!

The event will be at the 29th and the 30th of Quintahl at eight o clock in the evening. [OOC: The event will take place at the weekend of 27th and 28th September at 20:00 GMT+2 (CEST). Please correct if I miscalculated Yliakum time :)]

The Red Crystal Den Delicacy Cooking Contest

Then present your recipe and win one of our stunning prizes. [Expect a specially crafted and unique cooking tool. The 1st prize winner will have her or his recipe added in the corresponding cooking book in game.]

Your dish can be baked or cooked, it can be hearty or sweet.

Rules
Turn in a public book with the name of the dish, a description and some cooking instructions. Try to use ingredients that can be found in Yliakum.

[OOC: The winner will have his or her recipe added in the corresponding cooking book in game, in order to make the process easier for the developers, please use as much as possible the cooking steps we already have in game (Ie: sliced carrots, etc...) adding new one is harder than you can think]

Please bring in your recipes at 29th of Quintahl. [OOC Saturday 27th of September at 20:00 GMT+2 (CEST).]

Jury
A jury will decide for the winners. Please attend the prize-giving at 30th of Quintahl. [OOC: Sunday 28th of September at 20:00 GMT+2 (CEST)]. The winner may cook the dish for anyone who wants to try it in our new kitchen. [Just RP it for now.]

Arm the cooks trade
Turn in a meal that keeps the hunger of five dozen workers at bay and get one of the finest combat kits in return. To clarify that… you have crafted fish delights for a pack of 60 Enki warriors or tin burgers for 60 Kran miners or 60 apple cinnamon pies for one crazy dermorian? Come to the Red Crystal Den and trade the food in for

  • a set of finest leather armor or
  • a pair of finest steel weapons of your choosing or
  • a pair of shields from our mad cub with the hammer without risking your toes

For extra quality or extra amount you may get a combination of these or all of them.

We will continue trading as long as our armory is full and there is still space left in our food stores. It is first come, first serve. [We may not be able to deliver everything at the event itself... depending on how the ones who offered to or can provide them are online or reachable before.]

We will accept dishes on both days after the cooking contest.

Story telling
When we aren´t using the stage of the Red Crystal Den any of you is welcome to step up and sing a song about a cook or tell a story about a baker who tests out the effects of enchanted dishes with unsuspecting guests or something like that.

Everyone brave enough to climb on the stage will get a prize and can keep all the tips that are thrown on the stage.

[Tip givers please /unguard the circles after dropping them]

We may another some other special surprises at a later time.

Damola on behalf of the
The Red Crystal Den Team

[With special thanks to Kabitar for the event idea]
