In RuneScape it goes dark grey then says \"Ooh dear...your dead\" then transports you back to \"Lumbridge\" the place where
                         players begin.

What happens when you die in PS?

Is it something lame like RS? It needs to be cool like it has a small movie of you being sucked into blackness then awakening in
                         some specified \"dieing place.\"

i would hope it was like in other games. you have bind spots where you gain an afinity for the area so when killed you return to
that area. that way, unlike in RS, you can chose where you respawn after death so you dont have to travelk the entire world to
get back to where you once were.

the question im more concerned with is the death penalty. what will that amount to? will you keep your item after death or loose
them? will you keep the items but have to return to where you died to get them back from your corpse? what about xp? upon
death can you loose some of your xp? if you had just gained a lvl and got killed imedietly after, do you then loose that lvl from the
loss of xp? also what about a new skill you get after you lvl, if you are then killed and loose that lvl do you then now loose that
                         skill?

sure death penalties are needed or there would be no fear in dieing but to make them too exteam could hurt in the long run.
example is EQ. there for a while it was the only game of it\'s kind and the only one safe from the Quake types that like to PK. one
of the largest problems they had was their death penalty. you could work months to get a bit of xp to gain a lvl then in one death
you would be set back a week or two. also melee chars had it even worse. they had no magic where as casters had magic so
they could bind themselves anywhere. so when a melee died they were sent to a town. when a caster died, they returned to the
mouth of the dungion where they bound themselves. this caused the melee to run long distances with no armor or weapon to get
back so they could loot their corpse yet the casters still ha their magic to protect them.

well that went way off the path there but was ment to point out that death penalties need not to be massive and have to be equal
                         to all classes.

Oldman Kay walks down the road, stabling himself on his cane, as the mad Kroan comes up the road.

                         \"Son of #%$&@* I will never go THERE again!\"

Kroan, in all of his grief, knocks over Oldman Kay.

                         \"OOF!\", says Kay.

\"Watch where yer goin\' ya old 3 toothed mother #$%&er!\"

                         \"Take this sonny!\"

OldMan Kay unscrews the top of his cane to reveal an unusually long dagger. He rips his hood down off of his cloak and grips his
                         dagger with two hands.

\"Bring it\", says the old man grinning.

\"Come on I gotta get home!\", whines Kroan.

\"To scared huh?\", says the still grinning old man.

\"Fine, but lets make this quick.\"

Sweat trickles down the oldman\'s face as Kroan pulls out his sword.

\"YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!\" yells Kroan as he unleashes his first attack.

He swings his sword at the Oldman but misses. Staring at the ground where he thought the oldman would be, he leaves himself
unprotected. The oldman lashes into the air from Kroan\'s left and slices Kroan\'s left arm off!

                         \"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!\", screams Kroan in agony.

                         \"Energy Scroll!\", screams Oldman Kay.

A scroll apears infront of Kay\'s hand and a powerful green energy shoots out and blasts Kroan down the hill, breaking his leg.

The Oldman walks to the edge of the hill and sees Kroan at the bottom groaning in agony of his pain. The oldman walks away
                         and returns with the sword.

He holds it directly above Kroan\'s head.

                         \"Be nicer next time, sonny.\"

                         Oldman Kay drops the sword.

                         \"NOOOOOOOOOOOO!\", screams Kroan.

The sword hurtles towards the earth and lands a centimeter away from Kroan\'s left cheek.

The Oldman smiles, screws the dagger back into his cane, and walks away.

Kroan drags himself towards the nearest wall and takes a flaming torch from its sconce. He braces himself and the holds the
flame near to the bloody stump that was his left arm. Kroan his face frozen in a snarl of agony holds it there until the wound is
cauterised. Then he places the torch back in its place and crawls to where his sword stands embedded in the earth.

Kroan pulls it free and crawls to the nearest stall where he proceeds to cut and apply a splint to his broken leg. Then he
sheathes his sword and picks up a piece of wood to serve as a cane. Stumbling his way back up the hill he picks up his severed
arm and wanders off in search of a healer.

\"Please no more this day, I have learnt my lesson although it has taken me longer than the contestants.\"

                         He looks up and shouts.

\"From this day forth my blade shall only be drawn to defend the weak and needy, to uphold truth and justice, I AM REBORN\"

A stick raises into the air. The stick goes back, then slams foward and crashes threw the Crystal!

The Crystal breaks into tiny shards as the laugh of an oldman is in the faint background.

                         \"Hehehehe\", says Oldman Kay.

\"NOOOOOOOOOO!\", Kroan falls to the floor.

\"The Crystal was the only thing that helps you Kroan, and its gone. AHAHAHAH!\", says the Oldman.

Kroan falls to the ground. He screams in agony as a bright light befalls him from above.

\"Kroan\", says a mysterious yet comforting voice, \"You are the chosen one.\"

Kroan closes his eyes and reopens them revealing his eyes to now be a shining white.

He flips backwards back to the ground. Suddenly a staff appears in his hands. He aims it at the Oldman.

\"YOU SHALL FEEL MY WRATH OLD MAN!\", shouts the impowered Kroan.

Beams of blue light shoot out of the staff straight at Oldman Kay.

Oldman Kay does a Matrix Style bullet time dodge of the shots.

\"Hmmmm, in this time you are to powerful, I shall return another time\", says the oldman.

Oldman Kay throws something at the sealing that explodes and makes a hole. He jumps up and climbs out. Kroan runs over to
the hole but another thing explodes and the sealing regenerates itself.

Salbei, and splits it mercyless in half... The upper half of this Salbei remains on the lower half for a second, but then slowly
tumbles forward into the dust, causing it\'s intestines to slide out... Thekkur pays no attention to this though, for he sees a
movement in the corner of his eye! Immediately the remains of the Salbei he split in half dissolve into the thin air, because the
movement he noticed can\'t be anything else than the real Salbei, making the illusion to what it is... an illusion! As Thekkur slowly
turns his head into the direction in which he saw the movement, he sees his opponent limping to reach a save distance to cast
another spell. He might not be able to hear anything, nor to use his left arm, his feet still work! Still raging berserk he closes in

While deprived of all his (in combat useful) sences, except for his intuition, Thekkur all of a sudden gets struck by a strange
feeling, as if a god whispered silent words into his mind... a feeling that seems a mixture of extreme nostalgia, doubt, and pain...
not physical pain, but pain from the injustice and the want of thought in the world. No more he wants to fight for vague causes,
there are so many better things to fight and risk your life for... desponent Thekkur lowers his axe, ready for whatever the world
bears in mind for him. Either death, or else a life as a fighter for justice, a defender of the weak and liberator of the oppressed...

whitti\'s journal entry for the fight:

                         Battle Poem by whitti:

                         In the land of Yliakum,
                         The combatants met,
With a ring of steel and a strike of blades,
The fight had started and the weapons drawn,
The battle had started and was going on to end.
The crowd had gathered, old and young,
Hory, Catalyst, Lyssiah and Kroan just to name a few.
Scilantius the arbiter, I guess the fight is on.

The Contestants come in one at a time,
As their names are called by the speaker.
Salbei and Thekkur size each other up,
Until the arbiter shouts the fatal word.
Then ?Fight? is shouted and the crowd roars,
The arbiter floats to the center.

Thekkur, the mighty warrior grips his axe,
While his foe Salbei, the dirty mage stares,
                         Memorizing long forgotten spells.
                         Salbei drifting away from Thekkur,
As the fight starts, Salbei tries a spell.
The spell went wrong and Thekkur charges,
As Salbei runs around and thinks of spells to cast.

                         Whitti?s Illusion causes no thought,
as the crowd is focused on Thekkur.
Thekkur about to chop the mage in two,
slips and falls to the dirt floor.
Then Salbei casts two more spells,
Whitti thinking Thekkur in danger runs down the aisle.
He fires off an arrow and falls from the stands.

The arrow misses and Salbei casts a fateful death spell,
Early Grave, Lifeless breathe, Fall to the ground, Death.
Whitti brought out and ressurection scroll used.
He finds him self in the White Order cottage.
And soon heads the labyrinths way with his band of trusty followers.

Soon, Thekkur has his arm ripped off and turned to rotten flesh.
He chases Salbei with just one arm still wielding his big axe,
Salbei makes a clone that is quickly teared apart.
Thekkur runs and tries to tear Salbei?s limbs and organs off his dioboli- shaped body.

                         Then suddenly after Avatars poem,
                         Thekkur turns strangley pacifist,
but what will happen to the fight?

                         ---------------------------------------------

After I left for the Labyrinth we headed through the Bronze Gates and through the non- mapped tunnels. We then arrived at our
Guild Headquarters and went to bed

Then a sound like thunder came upon the stadium. Salbei Screamed \"Sagurum Thunderous Halerum\". Thekkur was stunned

Neither did Thekkur, and he still hasn\'t heard it, for illusions are only seen or heard by people who don\'t make a proper saving
throw. It\'s obvious someone in this arena has a purpose in mind for whitti, why would whitti experience an Illusion? -I\'m pretty
sure that Salbei can make his own decisions about which actions he takes.-

As for Thekkur, he chases his opponent around the arena as fast as his sturdy legs allow him. Now and then swinging his axe
and nealry chopping Salbei in half. But oh unlucky fate! There he stubles, and lands with his face flat onto the sandy arena floor!
Who could have ever imagined this great warrior to commit such a clumsy deed? As soon as possible he scrambles back to his
feet, but it\'s already too late... Thekkurs clumsyness has enabled Salbei to reach a safe distance, and it will take some
moments before Thekkur will have reached him again, maybe even enough to enable Salbei to cast a deadly spell!!!

Well, imo, there is no way to stop multying. But I think there are ways to discourage it. Firstly, I think it is a MUST that multiple
characters be allowed on a account. At least one slot for each type of character, and do remember people do like to build
                         variations of characters.

Limiting each computer or each IP address to a set of accounts may be done, depending on what the team thinks but I do think
that each person (assuming this game is \'free\') should be entitled to an account. Perhaps requiring an email address, or maybe a
credit card, or some unique info. If a credit card is used there should be no money taken from it, but only to prove that people are
                         who they claim they are.

If the creators of this game dont want everything to get screwed they have to make some important decisions. They dont have
unlimited resources, I do think any decent server for a game like this should have several dozen gigabytes of space. But having
enough RAM, processing power, and bandwidth is not very cheap. They will have to aware that there are possibilities of hack
attempts or denial of service attacks that could seriosly damage the operation of the server. Multiplayer games, particularly those
like these are not easy to maintain.

Lets hope that the servers arent swampted with too many people that can be handled like alot of commercial games...

One very annoying thing in free MMOGes is that there are always many players with multiple accounts. There\'s almost no way to
prevent this. Many things have been tried, from IP logging to cookie scanning, although with very feeble results.
With a relatively low amount of players and a fantastic gameplay in ps, it wouldn\'t be fair to allow players to have multiple
accounts I think. Something you might try is integrating a software tag like in cs (not crystal space, but counter-strike).

I\"ll tell you what\'s wrong with multipe accounts in PS:

If there will be 1000 places in game, and this is the ONLY FREE MMORPG online, don\'t you think there\'ll be thousands players
that want to play? Maybe you can subscribe 3000 players, for not all players will be online at the same time. That\'s still nothing
compared with games like PA though, in which more than 350.000 players were playing, and multi-ing was still disencouraged.
(in runescape you ARE allowed to have multiple accounts though, but that\'s because their motto is: the more players subscibed,
the more cash we get from sponsors. They don\'t have to care about server space or bandwith, for it\'s graphicly siple, and
characters take up almost no space at all.)

It wouldn\'t be fair to let one player have more than 1 character whilest other can\'t subscribe because the server capacity at limit.
you can\'t play with more than one at the same time after all.

Thekkur wouldn\'t it be ok if once someone created an account, they got it least 3 character slots?

But they could only delete a character AFTER 30 days. So lets say I create a dwarf only after 30 days could I delete him and
use his character slot. But I would still have 2 other slots, besides the one I couldn\'t delete till after a month.

If 3 characters are possible on 1 account it will give Planeshift more depth and make it more fun. But if It would take a lot of
memory or time to do, I say make it 1 character per account.

that\'s a good idea Buechler. I\'ve seen that in other MMORPG\'s so I guess that\'s not too much of a problem. It alows you to play
with more than one different race/class(I know ps doesn\'t contain classes, but I dunno how to call it else). The main advantage is
that nobody needs 6 characters, so you can calculate how many players can be online at max.

-If there is a max server cap. of 1000 seperate accounts, and 1/3 is multi, there is no possibility that all players are online. If
there are 1000 accounts which all contain 3 character slots, there will be no multiing and all 1000 players can theoretically be
                         online.

I am a multi acct man, and I don\'t know how anyone can live with just one acct. I mean, yeah if you have several char slots, then
maybe, but I cannot stand bieng stuck with one kind of char. I play Redmoon right now, and have 3 accts... 3 chars on each
acct, that lets me have one of each char (RM has 9 chars) and I, or my roomates, have gotten almost every char to lvl 100 at
least, with 1 lvl 300 and a lvl 500. If I just had say, the 500, I would get bored and deleate him at least once a mth. This way you
never get sick of a char perm. When they get boring, switch chars until you feel like playing the original again!

Quite honestly I dont see the problem with server capacity. Assuming you write the game in an effeicent manner, an account
would consist of no more than a username, password and character information with perhaps some extras. I see no reason for it
to be more than 5kb or 6kb for each account. You could probably store thousands or tens of thousands without running out of
space, more likely I would imagine you would want to limit the maximum amount of people who can login at once. I still think if
you provide people with enough characters in an account they wont multi, either way, i find it annoying having to memorise
                         different passwords and usernames.

Damn right about the server space... don\'t know how I ever came to such an Idea. Although I think the space needed WILL be
more than 6k. Multiple chars (3) on one account would be the ideal solution.

Well, assuming you limit the items people have and leave things like the contents of houses and banks and etc out of the
character files and store it in other files then you could probably get it very small. As small as a few kb for each character, and
limiting that to 10 or so with additional 1k of data for password, username, profile, last login date/time, misc info, etc.

Bandwidth is not so likely to be in such as abundance as disk space though, and even companies like Blizzard and other free
online game providers have trouble keeping good quality connections to clients.

Im sure the programmers are thinking this all through and if done correctly, ie, using compression and effective database
solutions then the game can support alot of accounts as long as it isnt abused (ie, bots that go in and create thousands of
accounts and spam messages by concurrently connecting to hundreds of them) then they will be fine. Perhaps limiting
connections to 4 per IP address or something will be a good idea, maybe it can be upped for companies who force peopel to
connect via proxies and such making multiple people use a single IP.

Its all about planning and design though, and from what ive seen the team is quite good at that. Lets see how the game turns
                         out...

It should be one account that allows a set limit of characters that can be created.

It would be entirely unfair to allow us only 1 character and make there different classes, races, deities, etc. I don\'t know if any of
you play Everquest, but imagine that and imagine only being allowed one character. I\'m not saying have 50 characters on 1
                         account, but something within reason.

I\'d leave it up to the creators to decide how to prevent people from making multiple accounts.

i was going to say the same thing. several of these multy accounts belong to members of the family. like husband and wife, so
they can play the game together. same with like Craige(sp) said about siblings wanting to play at the same time. there are many
reasons for multiple accounts. only a few of them are people useing one to power another.

Houses will be bought or assigned (we should yet decide on this topic), but for sure not at the first connection.
