Hi everyone,

You may or may not be aware but along with the move to UE as our game engine we have also made the move away from IRC as our main chat location.

We now have PlaneShift discord server where all the Devs, GMs, and UE contributors are active daily. To gain access you can follow this invitation link https://discord.gg/f9y6TFjvnf

I look forward to seeing you there.

Development Team Blog / Basic music scores
« on: January 01, 2019, 06:51:55 pm »
Some time ago Zakena gave me basic music scores for the musical instruments in game so that new players would be able to have some simple music to play when they get the instruments.

First, I want to apologize for not getting them in game sooner, life and UE got in the way.

Second, they are now available in game for purchase from suitable NPCs.

Basic Drum Score by Zakena
Basic Lira Score by Zakena
Basic Lute Score by Zakena
Basic Pan Flute Score by Zakena
Basic Tamborine Score by Zakena

I've also updated the quest where you get the pan flute to direct you to the new NPC which sells the music.

Big thanks to Zakena for the work put into making these scores for us.

Development Team Blog / Small updates.
« on: January 01, 2019, 04:54:02 pm »
Hello all,

I thought I would list a few things I've recently fixed as an easy way to let you know things are still being fixed.

I've reduced the size of bolts.
Fixed a typo in Gulm Osseo Needs Gems.
Fixed a typo in Malco's Munchies.
Fixed a typo in The Great Manure Giveaway.
Fixed a typo in Beer Tasting Event.
Fixed a typo in Xiosian Sermons book.
Fixed a wrong character in the Between the Worlds; an Essay on Duality book.
Added two skill quests written by Uadjet.
Changed the quest locks on Training Drawing so that players can't start it before leaving the tutorial, as suggested to me to make sure players in their don't spend time on it.
Added storage NPC to winch.

I'll keep this thread updated as anything else happens.

If people have suggestions of things to change you can say here as well and I will look suggestions over.

What I was thinking won't work.

But I have another idea which will use the active step variables of quest 2 as a way to lock out quest1. So this will work. Once the quests are ready we can load test and release them.

Hey, to answer might, quest 1 can't use 'no completion of quest 1' within quest 1 as once you have started it, the quest can never be completed as it is active so that check is always true. And you can't use it to start the quest as you could complete the quest once at level 70 then train to 100 and then can't get quest 1 again and will never get the pointer.

What you need to do is assign a variable that blocks quest1 from starting and activates quest 2, and is removed within quest 2. You can then set up the quest 1 and 2 locks to take this complecation into account.

I think this would work but it's not been tried. The reason I suggest to not use variables all over the place is just to try and keep the database as clean as possible.

Let me do some checks and I'll post a series of locks for quest 2 if it will work.

I can try and keep an eye on this topic to answer any questions you have.

I have some comments, for starters all steps in a quest need the same locks or not all options will be visible. So they will need to be split into different steps.

It's better not to have stacked menus and answers in one step, as this can cause problems with progression. I think all cases of that have been removed, especially at the start of quests when giving items over.

It is possible to randomize the quest options by creating a server script which randomly assigns a variable number which determines what the player is asked to do. This would have been my preferred options when starting the skill quests but it was not implemented. We could, it's not hard to do.

Repeatable quests do cause problems with progression. But with skill quests only one quest should be active at a time, meaning only the hardest options available to the player are possible to do. If you have two quests one for skill 0-100 and one 101-200. Then the moment they move from skill level 100 to 101 the first quest is no longer possible to start and they can only do the second. Without this players could be asked to do very simple things and gain very high levels, its a way to try and always make sure effort scales with the level given to the player. A current example in game is the fishing quests.

If, however, you wanted multiple quests to allow multiple ways for people to train a skill. Then you can just extend the time periods allowing the quest to be repeatable.

1 quest = X hours between repeats
2 quests = 2X hours between repeats.... etc

Unreal Engine / Re: Any work in SVN yet for moving towards new engine
« on: December 28, 2017, 03:10:36 pm »
Hi,

Over the last few months there has been progress, but it's very slow and inconsistent. Most recently Talad was working on code to 'set up' all of our characters to work within a UE4 client. I've not seen anything like screen shots for it though.

All of the videos and screen shots I posted earlier in the year were me importing and setting up Hydlaa 3d art, but this flow of images stopped as no new assets (other bits of hydlaa and other cities) were made available to use to load into the UE4 map editor, where the new world should be created.

Since then Eonwind and I who were looking at helping on the UE4 project are concentrating on adding content to the current game which will also be made part of any UE4 game.

What about all of you lot that have written books for places like the hospital? Are there any books there which would be great additions to the game?

Thank you very much for your replies!
Launching the psclient_static with the terminal did the trick! Is it alright if it doesn't go through the update process?

I would very much recommend using the pslaunch program as it will update the client art. Without which you will miss out on many recent additions which will manifest as bugs.

I'm on a book mission right now. Once I've finished off the 3 books I've planned to approve to night ill get into picking essential books to place on the wiki.

If anyone is tempted to help me I'd appreciate it as i won't get there by myself with other things id like to be working on.

Development Team Blog / Books and music.

Hey guys,

We are trying to implement processes in the way updates are produced and released which will mean they make it in game quicker.

As part of this I am pushing many outstanding player contributed books in to the DB with a hope they will make it into the production server game in the next few weeks.

The items will include some example music scores produced by Zakena to help people get started playing music, and currently 8 books. There are another 5 I am hoping to get done in the coming weeks.

Also, I'm always looking for interesting books which will add to the game to be added officially.
