yet another guy with laggin...
« on: October 23, 2004, 06:39:51 pm »
i know that there are enough threads where people complain about laggin, and other people answer with \"serverproblems\"...but WHY does it work for everybody else than me (i know im not the only one, but how come it works for some people ant not for others?)

is there anything i can do?

(my stats: 512 mb ram/1,6 gherz/ and adsl)

First,

As far as fixing your lag goes, I\'d say it is most likely hardware lag.  You\'ve got 512 ram, a 1.6g, and a dsl connection, so the problem probably lies with your graphics card (or lack thereof).  What kind do you have?  Make sure its drivers are up to date.  Open up pssetup and make sure it is on hardware rendering and not software, then bring some of the specs down (800 res, etc.) and put it in windowed mode (I hear it runs better in a window and not full screen...maybe it was the other way around...).  If it is still acting up there isn\'t much to do besides hope that the new rendering engine in CB works better than the current one.

That message means you either have no graphics card, or Crystal Space (the 3d engine Planeshift uses) doesn\'t recognize it (probably because of bad/no drivers). Another highly unlikely possibility is that you have an ancient gfx card that only does 2d acceleration which doesn\'t help much for gaming.

look at your card manufacturer\'s website for updated drivers, or use windows update (if you are on windows)

For linux, it is possible that you are using MesaGL drivers... not sure how exactly to fix or change that, ask one of the linux gurus around here.

Planeshift is usable if you have a fast enough CPU and enough RAM, even if you lack a 3D accelerator. Just run Planeshift Setup(pssetup) and then set the rendered to software.
