Linux: no font displayed
« on: December 29, 2004, 06:40:25 pm »
This is a very stupid problem because two days ago, everything was working, but psclient ate too much RAM and I had to install a swap partition, but... I trashed my root partition in the process ;(

And now that I have reinstalled most , I\'m unable to see any font displayed, either in the updater or in psclient. But I\'m able to log on and wander around Hydlaa Plaza.

There\'s no error message displayed when the client loads, and I\'ve tried with and without xfs, both unsuccesfully. Does anyone know what is missing? Or can at least give me general directions about where to watch?

Well, I have no idea about Linux... but from what I remember from MB, font issues were usually a graphics driver problem. Maybe that could be the cause...?

Sorry I can\'t help any further. :(

As much as I know, everything implied in the compilation and execution of planeshift has the same version than before (I update my gentoo everyday). CS and PlaneShift compiled correctly, and even with the -verbose option given to psclient, there\'s no error message showing up.

I\'m even able to see Arial and Verdana fonts in xfontsel (I think they are the ones used by the game), so the problem must be in my config files, but the font managing system is not part of my knowledge. I hope some dev can find some interesting way to explore.

Now it\'s getting worse, I decided to erase everything and rebuild from scratch, and the textboxes disappeared ?(. Here is the updater:

Here is the console contents (and launching with -vernose option doesn\'t bring any valuable information):

  Opening GLX2D
  Creating Context
Video driver GL/X version (direct renderer)
  Visual ID: 21, 24bit TrueColor
  R8:G8:B8:A0,

  Pixel format: Color: 24 Alpha: 0 Depth: 24 Stencil: 8 AccumColor: 24

planeshift.updater.application:
  psUpdaterEngine initialized.

Of course psclient doesn\'t work since I can\'t update the art files. I even have the Molecular Blue splashscreen, that was a funny surprise! I\'m not removing components from my system, I\'m adding a few more eveyday, so I really don\'t get why more and more things are disappearing.
