Boredom

Dear Planeshift community,

I personally have not been in any contact with the game since I left the development team three years ago. I have a nominal membership in the Black Order, but other than that no contacts left in the game world.

A week or two ago CrystalBlue sparked my interest; I downloaded the game and created my character. The fact is that I found no motivation to play: it seemed a world filled with wonderful graphics but devoid of life.

I searched myself, but found no inner desire to play the game: to raise my stats and advance in an online world. This puzzled me: in the past I had a sudden fervor about any free MMO that sparked my interest. Perhaps I have matured. Perhaps I have just become more boring, but I really had no inner lust to immerse myself in a world not my own.

Do any of you have some sort of MMORPG Viagra? Do any of you find yourself in the same dilemma?

Any tips of how to reawaken that fervor would be appreciated.

I can\'t help you with your problem, sorry, because I\'ve never had any motivation to...well, a lot of stuff.

Great to see you around though, good luck immersing yourself. :baby:

I have to say, most of the game is just pointless powerleveling frenzy atm. If you make your way to Kada-El tavern you\'ll probably find a couple of people roleplaying which can be fun to do :) The game has lots of bugs at the moment, there\'s going to be a database wipe soon as well, once the game is more balanced. I think that really you\'ve either got to roleplay, help out with bug finding/fixing, be a dev, or get to know some of the great players and just chat :) Personally it\'s the idea behind the game which attracts me the most, and helping in any way I can to further the progress is time worth spent. Having a guild and knowing so many people is like icing on the cake ;) Prehaps it\'s best to sit back, and wait for a fuller game before  deciding on whether or not you like it. After all it\'s still a tech-demo :)

Greetings Whitti :)

Personally I\'d say you shouldn\'t focus on the ingame stuff. I keep my interest keen by staying in contact with the developers and getting involved in the deeper stuff. Moderating the forums takes up most of my time and is one of the main reasons I don\'t get bored. I also contribute to the game and am doing my WTB tasks. Just being a part of the community is enough- the things currently ingame are boring to anyone unless they find a deeper nich? in the project. :)

I suppose that really in the past all I was interested in were my duties at the time: forum administrator, settings/background guy, PR, etc. I think I set up certain drives and motivations out of the jobs to keep me going, knowing that eventually a game would be made out of my work.

I assume that at the beginning it was \"Maybe I can help work on this game!\"

Then it evolved to \"I can create an ultra-cool game and become a uber-dev in it!\"

I think that all the way through though, the relationships with the people were definately the most important bits, as well as the feel of being able to make a difference in a world being created. Perhaps in my current state, neither are goals that I feel particularly keen to pursue. Two years ago, I was most likely a lot like quite a few modern \"n00bs,\" just without a game to \"n00b\" in. I really don\'t think I want to go throught that process again.

I have had the same problem before. It seems like my interest in a certain game is constantly fluxuating up and down like the business cycle. I just stick around and eventually it gets better.... until it gets worse... and so on. I guess the most important thing is to have friends who miss you when you are gone. Being active in a guild certainly helps as well.

Personally I enjoyed playing MB much more because all there really was to do was Roleplay. So the only people that were ever online were Roleplayers. Now with CB the only thing that almost everyone dose is down in the sewers training. And the only place you can find Roleplayers is in little places away from it all.

PS It is late night and I am sleepy so sorry if my post sounds weird.

Strangely I feel this way too. I think it may be because the fighting just feels... \"clunky\". It takes a while to get used to, and even then it just doesn\'t feel exactly right. Stuff like potions and attacks need to be more easily reached. But it is fun to roleplay in the tavern still. Perhaps that crystal collecting was more fun than I thought previously...  :D

Now that CB is here, everyone is longing for MB again. Ironic isn\'t it...

I\'ve given up fighting, all I do is sit in the Tavern, and wait for people to come talk to me. Sometimes I fill in for Kada serving drinks since she\'s never there... (don\'t be mad at me Kada! *cringes*)

If you need somthing to spark your intrest in the game go buy urself a huge bag of your favorite candy. Isolate yourself in a room with only PS on the screen and your candy. Eat it all and soon you should want to play and be a hyperactive player! You can thank me later

Here\'s one: uninstall and wait for the \"final\" version!

Hope to meet you ingame someday though! :)

My advice take a couple of fantasy/sci-fi books lay down, and start reading.  Ok this may not get you back into the MMORPG life but it sure will be fun :D

I want to state that I started missing MB way before CB was released.  Yes even while still in those halls of old I was pining for them, for I forsaw the masses and the complexity.  Actually though it turned out better than what I had feared, plus it added more lands to explore :)
