linux PS client / server issues
« on: February 10, 2005, 08:59:18 pm »
I apologize in advance if this is a redundant quesiton.  I have seen threads from people with similiar problems, but those exactly the same as mine have not been answered.

I am running PS on gentoo linux.  I used emerge, the gentoo package manager, to build cel.  Emerge also built jam, crystal space, and ode as dependancies.

I downloaded the sh installer script, which ran with no problems.  Now,  however, when I run the client (which is PS Crystal Blue 0.3.006), I get this message:  \"You are not running the correct version of Planeshift for this server\" (this server being laanx.)  I have run the updater numerous times,  and it always claims to have worked when it\'s done, but I always get the same error message when I run the client.

This is probably unnecessary, but just in case here are my specific system details:

I am running gentoo linux 2.6.9 r13 on an AMD athlon XP 2200.  I have 768 MB of DDR ram, and a barely adequate Geforece 2 with 16 MB of vram.  I connect wirelessly to the internet through an apple airport, which, sadly, connects via an internal 56k modem.  That is all i can think of that might be relevant.

I apologize for the length of this thread, and thank in advance anyone who might be able to help me.

Most likely the client the installer installed is already out of date.  And we don\'t have the ability to update it ( yet ).

If you are using gentoo check out laanx.fragnetics.com and look under \"Build Guides\" on the left.

well i\'ve downloaded and built everything,  accept for PS itself.  is the server down?  the cvs prog produces this:  \"Logging in to :pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:2401/cvsroot/planeshift
CVS password:
cvs [login aborted]: unrecognized auth response from cvs.sourceforge.net: M PserverBackend::PserverBackend() Connect (Connection refused)\" and http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/planeshift gives me a bad gateway error message (502\'d!)  I\'m guessing the server is just down and that I have to be patient, but is there another place to get the PS cvs?

SourceForge is having problems with one of their CVS servers that is affecting several different projects. Check Source Forge\'s website for Site Status.

ok I did all that.  Now when I try to run the updater, I get:

\"WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.graphics3d.opengl\'
No 3D driver!
ERROR: No iGraphics3D plugin!
ERROR: Failed to init Crystal Space for app!\"  I have installed CS and set the environment variables.  Any idea what the problem is?

also, when i run the client i get: \"WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.graphics3d.opengl\'
No 3D driver!
crystalspace.maploader: Could not get video driver
crystalspace.maploader: Could not get model converter
crystalspace.maploader: Could not get model crossbuilder
psclient:  No 3d driver (iGraphics3D) plugin!\"

ok so i made backups of the cal3d, cel, and CS dirs.

now when I run it, I only get this error:

\"WARNING! Suspicious: object with tag \'iEngine\' does not implement interface \'iEngine\'!
  No iEngine plugin!
  Failed to init app!\"

any idea how i get iEngine to work?

hi-
i got the same message telling me the server is running a different version.

i use linux since 2 month so i just got the basics.
after 2 days of grabbing libs i was really happy i made the client running on my fedora 3 (kernel 2.6.9).
i used the oficial install script.
today its the first time my install-log was not about 15Mb (no joke).

buliding it up from source didn\'t work for me (he cant find the cs-config during the cel-configurationn- i tried the debian-how-to)
the updater works fine but he keeps teling me all files are up to date.
is there anything else i can try?

i\'m looking forward to play this game =) in reward for some advices i promise to contribute some 3d stuff (several jears of practise).
my firewall is off and all my routers ports are open.
please please please help me.
the server just won\'t let me in...*knocking on havens port*

sry for bothering you in my first post
