Linux updater under root?

I installed PS on gentoo using the .run file on the PS site.  I installed the program as root and when I update as a normal user it dumps a bunch of files in my home folder.  My big question is do I need to run the updater as root and if not why is dumping a bunch of files in my home folder?

You are playing PS as root too? :-> You should remove the game, install it
in your home directory and never ever run any programs like that as root.

It was installed under /usr/local/Planeshift and I run the game as user .  I am going to try and reinstall.  There is no updater.cfg file.

Ok, downloaded and reinstalled.  Have not found an cfg file for the updater and it is still dumping files in my home folder.  Any ideas?

Do you start the updater out of your homedirectory? When yes, change to you PS directory at first and then type in the command \"./\".

I will give that a try because I am running the updater under the home file.
