Game Calender

Hello, being as new as I am, I may not have any say in the community. But regardless of such, I will state my business as it is. One of my characters I use as a simple Book Keeper. Yes, I use Wordpad and type down stories form other Inhabitants, and what I see upon the country-side and other beautiful areas of Yliakum. So, I was wondering if maybe a rough In-Game calendar, similar to the one used in Profile Creation could be added as a shortcut on the tool bar? Nothing special really, just the name of the month and the day. And while I am on my soapbox, I would like to prpose one more thing. A journal. Perhaps make it exclusive to one class, or make it a purchase. But it would add to the realism of my, and maybe mnay others\' RPs. That is all, Good Luck with the rest of the game, and I know the crew has many things instore for us Planeshifters.

I like the suggestion of a calendar! Would definitely add more realism. And then there are seasons... Though one problem that could come up, is that the current days/nights are far too short for the calendar to be fully useful. An entire year would pass too quickly for the characters (and their players) to adjust. Perhaps if these time periods were adjusted... but then again, an entire thread exists about that discussion.

The in-game journal has been suggested before, though :)

Now that someone agrees with me, I don\'t feel like such an idiot. And as for the day and night cycles.....Mayhaps 2 hours for day and night, that time adjusting for Day Lights Saving TIme, as well as the Seasons.

 As for the different region players only being able to log on during day or night, I have an idea on that. Why not have Planeshift on a International time? That way the clock would favor no one.

 And the Seasons, who said they have to be Real Life seasons? Perhaps I could create new seasons for each of the months? Given the proper description of each month.

 Either way, I figured I would just point these areas out, and I would like to say, I am rather talented at writing, and I would enjoy being a Planeshift scholar, perhaps a Part-Time Librarian? But I digress, I would love to write anything you need, in my power that is, for any portion of Planeshift.

I\'d love to see an ingame calender!  Then, we\'d know our characters\' birthdays and could calculate the age of dead characters.  Example:  Some guy: born (day, month, year), died (day, month, year)

It\'d be a neat little addition to the game, at least.

Twelve PS days in an RL day, which means 84 days in a week, and ~336 in a month. There are ten PS months with 32 days each (I presume that it is each), so a single PS year would take less than a month of RL time.

I\'m not sure what you mean by this, though it sounds intriguing... Maybe elucidate a bit more? Not sure I follow :)

If you read the descriptions of the months during character creation, you\'d notice the appropriate weather/season or activity that may determine such for each. So no need for a completely new creation.

An ingame year for each real-life month (or less)?!  I definately don\'t like that.  In time, we should probably mess with the length of day/night or make each month longer, or... something.  But, yeah, there already is a discussion on this.

In the way of the time, I ment somehow calculate it so that it favors no one. As in, comparing the most common log on times of the different regions of players, and use them to formulate a PS Clock. That way, time loves everyone.

The most common times will still exclude others who are in the minority. And I am unsure of how such a time may be calculated at all :\\ Still, I think that having night/day pass in a matter of hours will make the Planeshift year far too fast. There is the option of making night/day longer than RL nights/days, but I\'m not sure how others would feel about that. I know I wouldn\'t mind myself, at least.

So you want something like 1:1.5?  In my opinion, that would be a bit slow...
I was thinking something like 5:2 or so, so two and a half game days per real life day or so.  I\'m sure people would still be in the dark in some time zones though...

I think that\'s a good game-day to real-day ratio. If all the days are not of the same length (for example a day each week which is an hour longer), then even if someone played the game at the same given time each day in real life, he would still be able to experience both day and night after some time, as the cycle would shift slowly.

About the seasons, the Player\'s Guide says that \"The year is subdivided into four seasons only because of the cultural heritage of the people coming from the surface and the observation of the cyclic phenomena of vegetable growth. During the twenty-four periods of the year, the Crystal\'s azure light varies marginally, helping to reinforce the different periods.\"
As Karyuu said, there is some info during character creation about what happens each month, for example \"The month of Kravaan is the peak of the year, with enhanced plant growth throughout\" or \"Dwanden, the eighth month of Yliakum, is marked by the annual formation of hoarfrost on the lower levels of Yliakum. Great furnaces were built in ancient times to provide warmth to the Peoples\".
According to the Player\'s Guide, one would think that there is not much difference between the various periods of the year, yet the difference between Kravaan and Dwanden appears to be significant. I feel that there cannot be a season too similar to winter, it should be more like a season where plant life \"goes to sleep\" and not have any significant temperature change (I know there are natural vents at the top of the cave which bring in cold air but, even then, an underground cave remains a more or less thermally stable place, no?).

There IS an international time-measure already. Perhaps you know internet-time? It was invented by swatch for international chat and gaming purpose (perhaps it is only an ad-idea, but its innovative...).
So we could base the transformation of rl-time to ingame-time on internet-time, hows that? ^^
