Linux Client
« on: May 24, 2005, 06:35:59 am »
Hey people!

First of all i\'d like to thank the developers and all the other people (players, idea makers etc..) that works wogether in creating such a good game.

And second, i really need to ask you guys some questions.
I\'ve been browsing the forums back and forth to find an answer to my problem. As far as i understand the linux client is not finished since the last update. Is this correct? Since i get the error \"updater older than the servers\" when i try to update (psupdater --auto).

Im realy sorry if you get this question alot, and if i\'ve missed some information on the forums.

If that is the case, that the linux client is not finished, will you post news about it on the main website? So i dont have to canstantly search the forum? (and ask annoying questions about it) =)

And for the record: I am NOT in a hurry with this, the longer it takes the better it will be, i think =)

So, any answer from whom it might concern will be much appriciated.

Cheers from Ola in Sweden!
(pardon my poor english)

Uyaem

The difference with the updater under windows and linux is, that under windows it will both update the client code (updater + game) and the art files, whereas with linux it is only the art.

There is an installer for the most recent version of planeshift available, see here: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=16679&boardid=41
Note that the mirror is hosted on a home PC and might not be very fast at all times.

You can always try to compile the client from source yourself. Have a look at http://laanx.fragnetics.com/ (under \"Build Guides\"), even if your linux distribution is not among the listed it will give you an idea of the prerequisites needed to compile the game and the libraries it uses.
If you have any further questions or problems related to building from source, there is an IRC channel where you can either catch some of the developers or other people who managed to compile theirselves and are quite versed in solving problems:

irc.freenode.net
port 6667
#planeshift-build

Wrong.

1. Linux client Installer IS FINISHED (ok, I am lying, GUI is not yet done).
2. If you got \"updater version older than the server\" bla bla it means you have
downloaded an outdated version of Planeshift.
3. There is a forum section here...
scroll down...
scroll...
Oh here it is! Named \"Linux Specific Issues\" there you will find all needed info
and there you may ask for help. ;)

Enjoy!
