OpenAL
« on: July 13, 2005, 05:32:33 am »
Please don\'t flame me if this has already been posted, i did search first but nearly everything was for Linux.

The game plays pretty well for my specs but the only time the music works is when i got it set to software, but then it crashes alot. so i tried OpenAL, it didnt work. so i downloaded OpenAL and installed it, it said install complete but PS still dosn\'t work with it. Maby i didn\'t download it right or something, or maby i downloaded the wrong one. the one i downloaded is \"OpenALwEAX.exe\" if that helps. i don\'t understand why it won\'t work.

            My specs are:
Win XP Pro
AMD Duron(tm) Processor, ~1.0GHz
Ram 256
Gefource 2, 64 MB

Audio: SiS 7012 Wave

please help!!!!!

sound is buggy, many people can only  play with it turned off.
<Rux> i wish i could say that narrows it down, but the internet is one freaky place

The problem is quite complex.
The sound part is complicated because it relies on:
CS sound
sound renderer
sound driver of your sound card

Another problem is that the person who was taking care of the sound in CS (and also PS?) hasn\'t had the time to maintein this part, therefore, bugs are there and new bugs are discovered.

It can be also tricky to understand where the bug is, often. It can be in one of the several layers that constitutes the sound management.
From what I know, I have been tried to use OpenAL as well in some occasion, without making it working fully.

I know it is not a exhaustive answer, but this is what I know about the issue.
