Idea!
« on: August 20, 2002, 04:36:50 am »
Ok I think it would be cool if you wanted to roleplay when you first come in to the game you get a background like you worked on a farm all your child hood and decide to go out adventuring (this could give you a boost in strength from the years on your families farm).  Also you could start out in a prison cell and have to escape or the death penalty you would get a boost in some other skill don\'t know what you decide.  and you could come to the game as an apprentice to a smith, wizard...

Weird  or you could be raised by wolves and houl if you need help and the wolves would come and save you ass.

If all this sounds weird it late over dose on caffein and sugar so add revise whatever.  Slurrrp noooo caffein free ahhhhhh. ZZzzzzzz :O

The idea has some good points, that would work well in the game, but calling wolves to your sid is a little too easy if a monster you can\'t handlee shows up, isn\'t it? I mean, people would all be raised by dragons and giant monsters, then roar for help to get gold in advanced dungeons. Just my opinion.

Then again, it would be cool for your character to walk on all 4s like an animal, and instead of wearing animal hides, he could wear human hides.

disgusting but cool. id be crafting armor out of human flesh. which leads me to an idea. how about when you kill some creatures they drop their skins and hides? and if you were skilled in crafting you could make them into a stylish suit of armor! :D  ooo i could see myself in black panther skin armor with its shiny and smooth black fur on the outside :D

I think Aelya is trying to find people to serve her in her guild, stimulating their hum... animal instincts. :)

I was thinking of that pit scene from Silence of the Lambs. You could kill some annoying player, then annoy him by following him around in his skin going on about \"How well it fits\". Th armour idea is cool, I would kill a skunk and watch people flee in sheer terror.

It would be hard to program that I\'m sure so there could only be a set number of backgrounds to choose from.  That wouldn\'t make much of a difference.  If you want a better back ground, just make a char with a bit more strength and say he grew up on a farm.

I was thinking of coming up with something like that for DND, to give a good framework for your background based on what you want your character to be like. Basically the way I was thinking of working it, you\'d be allowed to choose as many as you want, really, (I suppose some would probably be mutually exclusive, but try to minimize that) and they\'d make roughly balanced tradeoffs in your stats. I was thinking limit the range that you can customize within initially, like for DND use a point buy system for ability scores, but not allow scores to go above maybe 14 or below maybe 8, until backgrounds are applied. Then, for example, a scholarly life might up intelligence but lower strength or constitution or something. etc.

Vampire: The Mascarade, had this flesh dealy.
One of the vampire clans had the ability to craft nifty things from flesh, like chairs, swords, or minions. The clan was somewhat satanic, and the leaders/minions where horrible freaks, thus, flesh crafting.

Nifty Fact Of The Day: On the topic of DNA, the more oxygen you add to the cell during creation, the smarter the person. Take away the oxygen, and you have a massive, unintelegent brute, with the strength of 10 men.

I just realized, another major benefit to backgrounds like that in the context of a computer game is that it can effect how NPCs respond to you. Maybe some peasants trust you more if you grew up on a farm rather then spending your days holed up in some dusty library... but maybe a snobbish aristocrat will look down on you for it. Allows the game designers to tailor certain parts to characters with certain backgrounds, and therefore can make for a much more in depth roleplaying experience when dealing with NPCs.

The stat and background ideas are good. It would keep people from wielding thousands of aunt and uncle dragons. I would bee onee of those \"Indiana Jones\" Warriors who read about a great treasure, then went to get it. But everyone would think I was an egghead since I would be in the library, but then I would snap into action!
