What do the different religions do?
« on: July 19, 2005, 05:48:08 pm »
There is no description for the different religions at least in the creation area and what bonuses if anything they give, yet they cost different CP.  Is there any place to find out their informatin?

Hi Wolfwing, well I don\'t really think they do much of anything yet.. once you get in the game they are part of your description.. they help to flesh out your charachter.. in a way that fits you so you can roleplay.  I\'m new as well so if I\'m wrong about this I\'m sure someone will follow up this post.. my advice is to pick what seems to fit you and then get in the game and start roleplaying and developing your charachter.. goodluck.

The religions have no CP cost, actually. Are you sure you\'re not referring to something else? Also, that description can be edited in-game, Dorment. The character creation serves no purpose besides figuring out the stats of your character - it is by no means a guide for building the personality or history of that character. The task remains with you. Certainly you can use elements of the character creation process in your story, but this is rare and not recommended.

You can find more about the two different religions and some of the history of Yliakum itself, here.

*edited to add* As far as I know, the religion you choose also has no effect on any of your stats, as it shouldn\'t.

Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Hmmm, maybe religions should give bonuses. Each one having a possitive attribute and a negative one, but keeping them all balanced. Just a thought.

Bonuses for what, stats? No thanks. Your choice of preferred deities shouldn\'t influence the character\'s body at all. Maybe when something like \"luck\" is implemented, or some form of prayer, or whatnot, but even that is iffy.

I wasn\'t think physical things either, but luck or charisma, or saving throws against certain spells, either possitive and/or negative. It would make the game that much more in depth and make the religion more than an aesthetic choice.

When you hold the cursor over the religions it shows 3 cp, 16 cp and such for the various religions, just wondered if it actually did anything.

Just wondering was all. :>  If the religions had any history or meaning like the days of the month do.

Woops, I stand corrected. How interesting. They still do not influence the character stats, however, so their existence within the creation process seems to be purely aesthetic. I don\'t have much (any?) knowledge of the Black Flame, but you can read about Laanx and Talad in the link I provided several posts up, with one mention of a black flame:

Quote
After the departure of Laanx, a black flame appeared in Kadaikos. Everyone believed that it was a part of Laanx soul and was supposed to rule his people till his return. The black flame was sentient and easily took control of the people in Kadaikos.

I don\'t know, just the fact that they cost CP (or will in the future), makes it highly likely that the devs are planning some sort of bonuses in the future. Even when you pick various options in your character\'s life and events, anything that has to do with Laanx or Talad influence the magic ways you have a head-start in. Basically, you gain starting ranks in those ways. Why would anyone waste their CP just for the sake of RP\'ing when they could spend it on something that actually does make a difference, and simply say they believe in this or that deity in the game? I have a strong feeling that in the future, it will influence the magic ways you specialize in even further. The only question is what will influence what. Laanx seems to influence Dark and Red ways, judging from other options. So, what will Black Flame influence? It seems rather suited for Dark and maybe Red as well but the cost is only 3 CP. So, perhaps it won\'t give as many bonuses to those ways? Who knows...

Well, it shows those amounts indeed, but they are not subtracted from your total CP amount. So for now: they don\'t cost anything, they don\'t do anything. But it is likely the devs have a plan with it for the future.
