If sound isn't working for you...
« on: July 16, 2005, 09:48:03 am »
1:
Check the PlaneShift Setup to see if software is selected for Sound Options.
It it isn\'t, change it to software.

2:
If software don\'t work, you could try OpenAL.
Set the sound renderer to OpenAL and download the dll here:
http://www.dll-downloads.com/dll_commonlyrequested.asp
Scroll down to OpenAL32.dll
Unzip the file to the PlaneShift directory.

3:
If OpenAL fails you, you could try Directsound as a last resort.
This actually seems more reliable on my PC and it makes levels load faster than the other renderers.
All music besides combat, however, is disabled.

I prefer to ignore Zelgar\'s comment... :]

I have a Terratec DMX Xfire 1024. Here, DirectSound seems to be surprisingly stable, despite the warnings I read.

Even stranger: I got the OpenAL installer from the Creative website, and several OpenAL32.dll versions from different games. Neither one worked, the game always crashed.

Or... just turn it off and be done with it.  :P  Specifically, turn of background music, in the options.  (that\'s the big killer)
