Holding food and drinks
« on: November 06, 2005, 05:22:50 pm »
This is a simple wish and probably one that is a bit obvious but I thought I\'d put it up here anyways.

I\'d like to see the food and drinks we can buy in my character\'s hands. Personally I\'d even like to see the way to consume things change from click and drag onto your char in the inventory to equip the item in your hand and have your character bring it to his or her mouth aka a /consume command with animation. This should go for potions, mushrooms, food, drinks, ... It\'ll look a lot better and equiping food or drinks will benefit roleplaying. We all know mugs have been equipable in the past so it isn\'t a hard thing to do but I noticed the new filled mugs they\'re selling now can\'t be equiped to my disappointment.
A next step would be the use of knife and fork sitting infront of a filled plate at the tavern.

Basically, make it so that everything can be held in hand.  Drag-dropping it to your character uses the item, drag-dropping it to your sword or shield slot equips them.

Only if your char has these equipped. :)
But while I think the animations required for these are a long way off, the holding of things shouldn\'t be that hard, though some models might need to be adjusted for being held gracefully. Also, it should be disabled for items that don\'t have a model... wielding a dwarf. :)

Also, things that are too big to fit into the current hand pose wouldn\'t look good, like bread or apples.

Yah I guess it would be pretty cool to wield items such as food.  But if you would have to put it in your weapons slot it would be really funny seeing someone killed by an apple. =}0

It would, but that cannot happen, because when you equip two non weapon objects you lose the abilkity to fight. Try two shields. :)

Oh, never knew that.  I never could find a use for shields.

Is there a reason else that you would have to define the dmg for all objects? I mean we should be able to fight with what we want.... (miscs items : stone in hand, tomatoes (often thrown), fork...)

And shield could be used as a weapon, not a deadly one, but you could try to make fall your ennemies by pushing... And when charging too...
Wish list summary (under construction)
Your help is welcome!!!
Done : Weapons, Other items, Magic
TODO : a lot ...

While this is technically true, the reason probably is that the fighting system is really geared towards actual fighting. For that, fighting with other items wouldn\'t make sense. Even in a PvP situation the fight is supposed to end deadly or by yielding, so this also isn\'t suited for throwing tomatoes or doing other things besides fighting.
While I agree that there should eventually be a sparring system, I don\'t think that fighting with anything but weapons would make sense. For RP, you would use /me instead, anyway, because entering a duel just for throwing tomatoes is more tedious than it\'s useful.
