NPC Guilds
« on: October 19, 2005, 05:15:00 am »
Adding on Einhanders idea ( it is pretty different but related) i think there should be NPC guilds, They could be doing quests and you see them running around doing them, they could have weapons and maybe fight other NPC monsters, and they could also challenge players guilds to guild wars. They could have a set amount of members and the devs could make their alignments affect how they act towards players and other NPC\'s......for example: a good guild could protect players in battles if they are near or tell new players how to get started. or an evil guild could do the opposite, steal kills and try and decieve new players, and there could be guild wars between evil and good NPC guilds. This would provide entertainment and players could get involved.

No, because all those things can and should be done by real players, not AI.  The nice thing about Planeshift is that it\'s player-based, I\'m not sure that it would be advantageous to shift away from that.

i think it would add because it would escalate some players anger and want to crush them with there own guild or maybe an evil guild could help the NPC evil guild ( if that evil guild isnt into crushing everything)

Ok, I see where you\'re going with this.  I think that players do need to have the opportunity to participate in \"something greater\", that is to have a motivation, goal, or quest which is both bigger than day to day activities and what they write for themselves through RP in their profile etc.  That is, put RP into the mechanics of Planeshift itself.  Having forces of good and evil which players in-game can fight for first into that.

Well I feel that NPC\'s should eventually be completely replaced with players so this would kinda be going backwards instead of forward to me.

If more npc\'s were added then they should seem to have their own systems and fights, just to add to the ambience of the game. As the servers become more populous then they could be replaced, but I agree that thats going backwards.  A better idea would be to just have a few more mobile NPCs - maybe some NPC\'s who randomly spawn together doing duels, and shouting at each other.  Another could show up at the bar every 16 hrs or so drunk and ready for a fight... little things like that that crop up spontanously wouldn\'t be a bad thing I don\'t think.
