DEN
by KylinRage
Note from the author: some subjects here are not true. I hope you can see which ones are.

Prolouge:
A new Klyros had been born, and had been named Den, which in latin meant tooth. He was born during a horrible massacare when rogues savaged families fromn house to house. He was there to see rogues behead his parents like a executioner would. He was orphaned until a mysterious Kran took care of him after the massacare.
Years have passed, and our young Den has learned beginner\'s swordsplay from the Kran who raised him. He mentioned about the massacare to his foster parent and he requested that he should go to a Lemur named Enigma that could guide him to where the rogues settled and gathered their loot. Den accepted this advice, and then grabbed his sword and got ready for the long journey.
This is where the story begins........
CHAPTER 1:
Den was looking around. He was anticipating the moment where he could destroy the rogue\'s leader. However, he looked at himself: A young mere Krylos wearing nothing but a pair of blue britches and weilding a crude sword. He wondered how he was going to defeat someone more than twice his strength.
The young Krylos decided to have company. He asked his Enkidukai friend Mawl. Mawl was a handsome young Enkidukai who wore britches like Den, but he wielded a axe. Mawl always hungered for adventure, so he accepted Den\'s request despite what the Krylos said about the risks. They went out of town not knowing what layed ahead.......
CHAPTER 2:
The two friends had been walking for hours. Without a single monster attacking them, they believed that it would be a safe trip. All went well until a band of rogues surrounded them.
\"I\'ll take them, go surround them,\" said Mawl.
Den quickly ran to the back of the gang and drew out his sword, only to be knocked unconscious by a flat of a blade. Mawl sighted the scene and hesitated. How could he do this alone? He daringly attempted to slash a rogue in the chest. The rogue blocked the Enkidukai\'s sudden attack, and countered by knocking him back. Mawl backed up and stared at Den. The young Klyros was awkening. Mawl held the rogues until Den had awaken. Den drew out his sword and backstabbed at a rogue. The rogue howled with pain, his sword slightly scarring Den\'s cheek. Although the damge was little, blood gushed out hastily. Den tried to resist the pain since attention is now drawn to him. He luckily dodged a sword, and blocked the next lunge. Mawl felt the desperation in his friend, so he charged and pierced the rogue that Den ambushed earlier. After what seemed like hours, the rogues were defeated. Den\'s scar was now suddenly feeling strange. None of them knew the cause of the strange feeling and continued on.
CHAPTER 3:
The next day, Den woke up, finding Mawl well asleep. The strange feeling felt alot more painful. He examined the scar by looking at a puddle of water. He saw his face, but where his scar used to be is now a larged open wound. The flesh was overflowing with pus and blood now. Den hesitated. He recalled the moment when the rogue striked him. Then, all of a sudden, he remembers seeing a green liquidy tint on the blade. Poison. He panicked. How was he supposed to find a cure? He remembered that Mawl read a little bit about poison atntidotes. He waited for an hour before Mawl finally awakened. Den asked politely, \"May you examine my wound and find any traces of poison?
          \"Certainly, my friend,\" replied Mawl.
Mawl squinted hard at his friend\'s face. Pus, blood, tearing flesh. \"Oh no,\" Mawl gasped.
\"What\'s the matter?\" inquired the curious Klyros.
\"You got hit by latch poison!\" exclaimed Mawl.
The Klyros had heard of latch poison before. if untreated in five days, his whole body can dissolve inside. Den hastily asked,\" Is there a cure?\"
\"Yes, I\'ll have to find a rat tail, eye, and hide to make the potion,\" replied the young Enkudai.
Den grossed out at the ingredients. He couldn\'t drink such horrid contents! Is his friend insane?
\"Don\'t worry, Den, I know what you are thinking,\" Mawl said, and walked to get the contents.
CHAPTER 4:
Far away from the two young travelers, Enigma was watching their actions.
\"Poor souls, If they only brought another friend,\" sighed the handsome Lemur.
Enigma knew the elements well in this part of Yliakum. He knew what the Kran had told Den. He knew that the rogues will be slowed down. Enigma recorded many historic events, such as the battle of the Krans and Yilans (I will right my next story about that), The creation of the Lemurs, and the dawn of this world lighted by the azure crystal.
Back at where Den and Mawl were, Mawl found rat eyes, hide, and a tail. Then he took some boiling water and put it all in a clay pot. As he observed the contents dissolving, Den was impatiently waiting for the antidote. The Klyros can already smell the foul liquid, and before he knew it, a pot was shoved in his face, the antidote within.
             \"Here,\" proclaimed Mawl,\"drink it while it\'s hot.\"
Den unwillingly drank the antidote, and set off further with Mawl. They didn\'t walk for long until they found a engraved tablet buried in the ground. When they took it up, it read:
Hear lays the ruins of Enigma the Lemur\'s old home. If you pass by this tablet, head north and you shall find him.
\"Interesting,\" remarked Den,\"I never knew Enigma will live up there.\"
They met two rogues with axes. Mawl took them on, telling Den that the antidote will fail if the drinker is hit again in a day. Den understood, hoping that his friend will be able to defeat two rogues. Now that the two knew that rogues have more strentgh than brains. Mawl outwitted them by encircling them, their eyes pursuing him. That foolish move made them dizzy, and Mawl waited for them to collapse. Then, he let den stab one, while he did the same to the other. Even though the two are unaware, Enigma knew that those two would surely kill the rogue leader: Headcutting John.
CHAPTER 5:
Den was leading the way now, since his wound has closed. As they walked through the dense forests, sneaky Xachas were spying on them. These Xachas have been following them all along. The two encountered a ravine, but there was a bridge built already. Den suggested they walk across the bridge, while Mawl said they should hike down the slopes at the sides.
\"Come on,\" moaned Den,\"We need to get to Enigma quick!\"
\"You have to think ahead of the rogues,\" protested Mawl,\" They are expeting us to cross the bridge, besides, it its only one hour slower.\"
Den sighed. His friend always thinked harder than he did. They decided to hike down the slopes. The spying Xachas, however, decided to take the bridge and wait at the other side, only to have their bodies tortured badly by rogues.
CHAPTER 6 (final and longest chapter):
Mawl\'s suggestion was right. Den was grateful of his friend\'s wisdom. They are walking closer to Enigma\'s home, they could see a small blur at the top of the mountain they were hiking. That blur was Enigma\'s house. This time, they didn\'t find rogues, but Lemurs that didn\'t want any other race talk to Enigma.
\"Stand back, fool,\" said one of the Lemurs,\"Enigma will not talk to you.\"
\"I don\'t beleive what you are saying,\" Den said, drawing his sword to kill him, only to be grappled tightly by two other Lemurs that pinned him to the ground.
Mawl tried to help, but two Lemurs did the same to him. They tried to fight back, but every trick they pulled on the Lemurs failed. The two were so close the house was now clearly visible. All seemed hopeless until they see an aged Lemur emerge.
\"Let them come in,\" the Lemur yelled friendily,\"I want to see them.\"
               \"But Lord Enigma-\"
\"No Buts,\" the Lemur which was Enigma said,\"Just let them in.\"
Den and Mawl soon find themselves talking to the person they were looking for. Enigma informed that he lives right next to the rogue encampment where the leader, Headcutting John, stayed. Den and Mawl wondered how they could defeat John, but before they could ask, Lemur supplied them with suitable armor.
Den and Mawl then left the hut and went inside the encampment. They realized there were 100 rogues, so they quickly ducked under a bush.
                \"We need a plan,\" whispered Den.
                \"I know,\" replied Mawl in a sharp whisper,\" I have one already.\"
The plan was to take the least occupied paths and backstab all the rogues one by one. It took nearly a whole day, then it was time to take out Headcutting John.
As Den and Mawl kicked open the door, finding the leader already fully equipped. The frenzied leader blocked many a move of the two, and wickedly slahing Mawl\'s chest. The cut was really deep, and could have killed him in a flash, but he only collapsed, desperately trying to survive.
It was only Den against John now. They clashed against one another valiantly, Den\'s shield hand sliced off. Both were sweating blood, and no ending seemed to near.
                 Suddenly,\"D...Den...,\"moaned Mawl,\" his...armor.....it\'s....wearing.....out...\"
Den realized Mawl\'s point. The armor of the leader was tattered. looking at his bleeding arm, he angrily gripped his sword and fought for hours on end. His weapon was knocked out of his hand, his leg cut off. a puddle of blood filled the room.
                \"Haha,\"John said,\" You will die now!\"
Den all of a sudden crawled for his weapon. He stabbed John\'s heart, the leader\'s sword pinned his arm. Den was releived. Den saw Mawl\'s eyes fade, not long before he closed his eyes.
He woke up the next morning, finding Lemurs healing his wounds. Somehow the intelligent Lemurs replaced his cut leg and hand. He looked to Mawl\'s side, medics wrapping bandages all around his chest. Den was releived. He had avenged his family, his own kind.

Epilouge:
Shortly after, the two returned home seeing their families again. Their quest was heard by the whole population of Yliakum. Generations heard the legend for years, and it never died out. Even when the two were very old, they remembered everything that happened seasons ago.... as vivid as it was long long ago.

                            THE END

Dylia, if you are ever wondering of seeing Den again, read my new story THE DEATH GAME. He was recently mentioned again in the story :). He now is a main character with his friend Mawl, with the other characters.
