Bumping into walls causing crashes.
« on: November 16, 2005, 07:30:27 am »
I have a Imac  OS 10.4.3 2 GHz Power PC G5,   1 GB SDRAM.
ChaOs write:
IMPORTANT: if you are encountering frequent crashes in-game, you should disable background music. To do this:
In-Game: Open the Options panel (has a \"check\" on it in the button bar). Go to Sound and then General. Uncheck the box labeled \"Background Music\" (should be the top one). Click \"Save\" at the bottom left of the Options panel.

When I go to Options, then click on General,  Nothing happens.  I see no window or anything where I can uncheck anything.   Very disturbing.

Interesting somewhere it was said something about updating Java and the drivers.
I check and ran an update called:
About Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Release 3 for Mac OS X v 10.4.2 or later

When it seems to crash is right after bumping into a wall or object.  After get back on I discovered the others in the area (mining) had not crashed.    The cursor freezes up and when I click on the psclient in the dock, it say something in not responding and so I force quit.    Then I have to wait 30 seconds before getting back on.

a  common warning in the console has been;
crystalspace.engine.warning:
Lightmaps are not up to date (lightmap format changed).
Use -relight cmd option to calc lighting.

LoadNewFactory
:
  Couldn\'t find file /this/art/things/chest.spr
Creating psnetconnection 0xd194200!

crystalspace.graphics3d.shader.fixed:
  Multitexture units: whopping 8

planeshift.application.client:
  PSLoader: step 2: success

and:

crystalspace.engine.warning:
Lightmaps are not up to date (no \'lm_precalc_info\' found in cache).
Use -relight cmd option to calc lighting.
  Couldn\'t load cached lighting for 512 object(s):

Use -relight cmd option to refresh lighting.

Post comment: Just before this latest playing and crashing I had run updater.jar and at first could not get on at all with PS saying I had the wrong update.  So I ran updater.jar again and set the \"cd psclient 755\" stuff again.   This morning (11:30 A.m. EST, USA) I ran the regular PS updater and it said All files updated which is the first time it has said that.  Usually, the PS updater in the past week would repeat the updating of the DR 1.8 MB update.   That at least is an improvement.

I don\'t think Java has anything to do with PS. If anything the Updater.jar would have been broken but this is not the case.

Actually my pssetup has not worked since 0.3.012 has come out.

Also today, it just froze on me as I was mining in one spot.   I did not bump
into anything.

So maybe this theme needs to be under 0.3.012 problems instead of a new theme.
---------------
Maybe this is Much Ado about nothing but are looking thru the themes, I ran accross Janner\'s (R guppy) advice on going into planeshift.cfg and changing the settings.    When I got in, it said that the width was 600 and height 400 and depth 16.

I changed the settings to 1440, 900 and 32.   Is the depth the same as the bit amount.    Anyway, I went into PS and I could see further and I even bumped into a corner and nothing happened.    However the server crashed on me, but that is another problem I have little contorl over.

I am holding my figures crossed that it will be working better for me.  I still have the problem that my PS screen is small.  When I try it on lower display settings, the PS screen is still not full screen but it is deeper than my screen and so I can not see everything.
---------------------
Yes, Much Ado about Nothing 2:  I searched under \"full screen\" and found a comment from ChaOs to another that He (ChaOs) searched under \"full screen\" and so I did too, and eventually found that one should go into Planeshift.cfg and change on the fullscreen line the \"= false\"  to \"= true\" which I did.  So when I tried PS again I got the full screen!

so ChaOs As far as  i am concerned, you can delete this theme.   It would be nice if I got credit for the 2 deletes, though.

I\'ll leave it open for now. If you encounter any more crashes from bumping into walls, please post here. The background music issue usually crops up when changing sectors, if at all.

P.S. If I delete a whole thread, none of the posts within are counted as being deleted.
