Problems
« on: November 18, 2005, 01:43:32 am »
After I load the updater and then load the game it gets to the end of it\'s load, then it just stops. It says \"Something unexpected happened in PlaneShift: Crystal Blue. Details: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 5ED3E6B2 Would you like to save a diagnostic file?\"
And if you say yes or no it closes. How do you think I can fix this?

have you tried to run the recover updater? I\'ve had a similar problem and it worked for me.

If thats just the \"updater\", then sure I\'ll try it.

There\'s a shortcut to updater in recover mode on start-all programs-planeshift-planeshift updater (recover mode)
This mode has proven to give less problems than the one that loads the gui, and also provides more onscreen information about the errors you could be having, so it\'s recommended to use it if you encounter any problems with the normal updater.

Also, to solve your problem, try disabling sound, it\'s almost the first step to do when a repetitive crash occurs :)

EDIT: The planeshift setup utility can be find next to the updater shortcut, named \"Planeshift Setup\"

Yes in windows particularly sound is an issue - I\'ve found that using OpenAL there have been no problems whatsoever - however windows doesn\'t come with openal by default it must be installed - and that isn\'t like clicking install and having a program do it for you - it involves dropping some dlls around manually and stuff, but it can be done.  If I get a chance I\'ll install windows on a PC and see if I can make a howto or something.

I used the updater. It didn\'t work so I deleted the game and re-installed it, tried again, and it still doesn\'t work. I also turned off the sound and it STILL doesn\'t work. Also, can you explain the whole \"Dump\" thing? In the setup application the \"DirectSound 3D\" choice in the sound category is red. Does that mean anything?

Why have you posted an update issue in my thread?

Your thread? This one can\'t be it since you didn\'t start it. What are you refering to, and why are you refering to it here?
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.
