My thoughts (4 days into game)
« on: January 04, 2006, 01:33:10 am »
First and foremost id like to say thank you to all the volunteers that are participating in the developing of this game. Id also like to point out that I am aware this is alpha and this is just my version of the way im seeing this game.

1) Id like to first point out that the \"Help\" tab is my favourite tool. Although I dont abuse it much, but when your in a bind or have that one burning question the advisors are awesome to help you.

2) I dont really want to say this, but I must. I was really dissapointed in the mining aspects of the game. I spent 3 hours on mining some gold only to find out selling the gold did not give me much of a payout. (Im still holding on to some hoping that it can smelted somewhere?)

3) Labels! I understand there is a function for lables in the options, but it dont always work. Also I am tired of looking for NPCs that offer certain services. I understand the label colours but some offer both and so forth.

4) Sprites with the fighting are horrible! You barely see your char attack and vice versa.

Its not much, Im sure there are more. This is a great game and I applaud everyone who is apart of it. Thank you so much.

Hiya! You\'ve definitely raised good points :) You\'d be amazed at how many people miss the Help tab entirely. There are also balancing issues that need to be addressed, without a doubt - with fighting and mining both. You\'re right when you say that currently, mining is the less desirable option.

Not sure what you meant about \"sprites\" though?

Sprites,

An independent graphic object controlled by its own bit plane (area of memory). Commonly used in video games, sprites move freely across the screen, passing by, through and colliding with each other. Programming sprites is easier than programming an object to move around on the same plane as other objects.

Lamens terms, To give your character more movement during battle.

Ah, thought you were talking about the animations, wasn\'t sure though :) I hope for more dynamic movement as well, both when doing something as exciting as fighting, or simply idling.

2:  Smelting and crafting are so close I can taste it.  :P  Just wait a bit longer...

3:  The issues with labels have been fixed for the next release.  Requesting different colors for merchant NPCs has been suggested before, and is probably a good idea.

For the far future it would be nice to have visible signs that certain people are merchants, i.e. a rack of swords outside Harnquist\'s shop and maybe even a sign, \"Swords for sale\" or somesuch (I know this has been proposed before).

Well atleast you know how to mine. I have the pick I have the skill I don\'t know what the rocks that you mine at look like >_< I asked someone helped abit learned you type /dig gold or something like that.

And yes some things need a bigger value I played for a whole day just to get 600trias and I used them to buy my stuff and find out a spell costs 1000 and all I have left is 20. Thats why I learned mining hopeing it will bring me more income . :)

Also yes the labels are nice Cause I go arund town talking to everyone to find a shop.

*ALSO MAJORLY LOVE HELP TAB* thanks to that I stoped trying the holy script quest cause it was bugged I was standing there refraseing \"I want the holy script\" as many times as I could!!

I would also like some movement when you attack... the only movement you get is when your attacked.

Ignore me if I am annoying but thats what I think.
Never wish, my love, always dream for dreams will always come true, when your with me.

Ah yes, sinage...Yliakum could really use some of that.  Perhaps some signposts at key locations like at the fork in the forest path.

<--- Road to Ojaveda
       Magic Shop --->

I\'m all for exploring to find your way around and perhaps some places should remain hidden like the ruines in the hills, but even in the dark ages they had an occasional signpost.  Maybe we can still get away with it now but once there are more areas, I think it might be time to add them.  For those of us who have been around we know where to go but for newbies, it can be easy to get lost.

Perhaps some of these npc\'s (the merchants) should have kiosks.  If your going to keep to rp, who just stands around in the same spot all day?  Give them some place to set up shop.  Nothing fancy, just something like a hot dog stand.   :)
