Should it take so long?
« on: January 31, 2006, 11:39:05 pm »
Should the game take so long to download?  Just wondering but it would make sense if it is because there are many 3-D graphics and things as I have been told.

Well, I am a newbie for now... not used to it because all of the other things I\'m interested in I have firmly established myself in for years. I look foward to doing that here too. :p ^.^

See you all around.  I guess this was also my \"hello\" to all of you.

Later.

Harena

*edit*

I mean... It\'s 74% complete but it says that there are 11 minutes left... is that normal or does anyone think there may be a problem?

Please avoid posting two or more successive posts before others have replied. Just edit your last post to add new information :) Thanks! --Karyuu

Well, it depends on your connection and the method you\'re using, of course :) It takes less than half an hour here, but some people wait more than four times that long. The size of the installation file is pretty hefty - over 200 megabytes.
If the download hasn\'t paused without any progress whatsoever, there\'s nothing wrong.

Welcome to PlaneShift! ;) Unfortunately as you can see by the message at the top of the forum, the server is currently unavaible, so you\'ll have to wait a bit for it to return before jumping into the game. Hopefully it won\'t take too much time.

Before loading the world however, make sure that you have updated both the game client and your graphics card drivers, just in case. The PlaneShift updater utility can be found in your main PS directory, and Start->Programs->Planeshift Crystal Blue->Planeshift Updater if you?re on Windows. While waiting for the updater to finish its work, I would suggest you read the Player Guide, and browse through a few stickies found in the various forum sections. Some of the most useful stickies include:

Players Policy - Must Read!
BugTracker
Gameplay FAQ
Getting Started In-Game
A Guide to Role-Playing
How to Report In-Game Abuse
On Guilds and their creation
Guide to 2D/3D Contribution

Try to before posting new threads, either for suggestions or bug reports, and remember, you can also use the in-game Help channel for any questions in the game world - an Advisor will try to help you ASAP.

Have fun! :)

Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Greeeeeeetings Harena

and welcome to Planeshift. I guess Karyuu would tell you the most needed stuff but I\'ll just try to be quicker :D

Download time depends from time to time, but it isn\'t exactly strange that it takes some time. Just be patient and check out the forums a bit maybe :)

Allrighty, what do you need to know. Planeshift is in pre-alpha status right now, this includes that YOU will be a tester and report bugs, and \"THEY\" will fix them and bring them out on the next update, which for a weird reason always is \"soon(tm)\".
K?

Read the player guide before you start, this is included in your download, also try and read the stickies on top of the boards here, your main everyday questions will be answered there, and if it\'s not in there --> Search the forums first. Searching can be done using the beautiful search button on top of the page, under the PS logo. If your question was never asked before (which I strongly doubt) go ahead and ask it.

Last but not least, remember that planeshift is a roleplaying game. This means that while ingame you\'re IC (In Character) mainly. If you have something OOC (Out Of Character) to say, put it between brackets, or make sure everybody notices it is OOC.

If you have problems in game you can ask for help in game too, but make sure to do this IC, or you can\'t expect much help.

And if you get stuck in the Death Realms, you\'ll soon find out what they are, just ask IC help from other fallen persons, and they\'ll likely help you out.

Thank you :D

Once again, be welcome, enjoy planeshift and its community, and as Zorb would say: Beware, PS is highly addictive :D

Thank you two both of you.  I\'m glad that I\'ve met helpful people.  I\'m hopeless with starting new things so I appreciate the help.  I can wait don\'t worry.  I\'m just really happy that I came across this.  You see... I\'m but a poor student still and have no money... so it\'s an awesome bonus to find a free mmorpg... one that looks totally awesome! ^.^

It is nice to meet you.  I think I will become totally addicted to this forum and the game.  Unfortunately I have to do some of my work for an evil research paper/project so I cannot get on for more than a few hours a night during the week.  (I\'ll make that up though on weekends.  I\'m so hopeless ^.^\')

I will go and read some the articles right now so I can start to know my way around.  That way when the server is up... I\'ll be ready to go. :)

*hugs all of you*

Thank you for the welcome and the help.

Harena :)

Hi all,

I have been watching this forum for a while.  It is useful to observe/search/glean information that answers alot of those \'I will work out how to do that soon, now to sell this Trepor heart.....Uhh!\' kind of jobs. ;)
As such, I would like to thank the regular contributors to this forum aswell.

You find some short, some terse,
And even those, who answer in verse!

Greeting and welcome to the PS world.

One thing to know before playing PS is that it takes patience. If you didn\'t have it.... well you will gain slowly. It\'s like trainning ingame but it\'s free!! :D

I\'m glad I\'m pretty patient then... :p *sigh* I just wish the server was working properly, but I understand that they cannot help it and they totally rock for running the RPG in the first place. ^.^
