Repeated crashes with the .13 client?
« on: February 26, 2006, 12:08:30 pm »
Heya,

is it just me or is the new release somewhat unstable compared to the .12 version? It seems that currently I\'m getting thrown out the game every 10 minutes, either with \"no server response\" or a client-side runtime error... (?)

The .012 was just as bad in the beginning, if not worse ;) This always happens once an update is implemented and before the bugs are tracked down and fixed. Rest assured that the crashes generate files for the server admins to look into and figure out, so they won\'t go ignored.

The problem at the moment is server related, I guess.
We are trying to track down the issues on the server, the client should really be definetely more stable than the previous version.

But like for everything, we need some *real* test with players, which might discover problems that otherwise would be hidden.

If you get a \"save a diagnostic file, bla bla bl\" please, save it and upload it somewhere.

Where can we upload it though? Is there nowhere we can post it, i.e to planeshift team or a forum page?

You can try the bugtracker. You can upload files there. Otherwise I remember there was a website where people was before attaching files. But I can\'t recall it and the thread with it has been unfortunately deleted, I am afraid.

command.something.dump or similar... Hm. It has been disabled quite a while ago due to the team not needing the dump files anymore, wasn\'t it? Once no new information was popping up.

Ah, if you mean bluecommand website yes, it is down.

I can read the dump files, but I don\'t have a website. I remembered a thread, though, were people was posting the files as .txt on some public website. Like imageshack.us, for making an example.

I tried putting one on bugtracker and they told me they couldn\'t do anything with it...but that was before the .013 release, so maybe they want them again?  I have no clue, I just know I save them a bunch.
...
Actually, a similar prob that I\'ve had with both 012 and 013 is that every time I quit it boots me, giving me the \"something unexpected happened,\" \" would you like to save a diagnostic file?\" stuff when I\'ve already quit the program.  I thought it was kinda funny actually, sort of a \"you can\'t leave me I boot you \" complex that the system had (not to make a machine a person or anything, but...), but I thought I\'d mention it just in case it meant something bigger was going on.

The exit crash is nothing to worry about.  It keeps going away and coming back, but it\'s rather inconsequential so it\'s not a big deal.

Ralarssenth, yes, please, post them now. I can read them. Before it was not possible.
I want a bunch of them after you got the new client. Not with the old one.

The crash that is right now on exit is quite clear. It is some reference that is deleted again.
When this would be solved there is always the kind of crash that DaveG is mentioning, which is pretty random, instead, unfortunately.

It crashed 3 times during play. the window said it concerned a runtime library error and then something about C++.
I\'ll try to get the report to you but it doesn\'t sound like a big deal.

If you get a diagnostic file, take it down and put it on the bugtracker, on some other website, or make it possible that I get it somehow :)

I guess I should add that I only had notably many crashes for one afternoon. Granted that I\'m not online 24/7 *g*, but so far it seems to have been a temporary problem, maybe weekend-related... :)
