Just a suggestion
« on: March 01, 2006, 01:44:17 am »
Maybe it would be a good idea to add something like a developpement status part to the Mac Client Status post.
In there dfryer or Chaos could post how far the mac compilation is. Like for instance: \"Compiling graphic libraries.\" or something like that. It doesn\'t have to be long ... just a sentence or two to give people an idea how far we are (and to let them know how hard a job it is :D )
This way you would avoid all those posts about when the new client will be out.
It\'s just a tought, but it could avoid a lot of hussle.
But then again it would be only a plausible solution if you have the time for it.

It doesn\'t take that long to compile...  The delays come in fixing mac-specific issues, testing, and in getting the package hosted for download.

And, as already been said many times, giving very detailed progress reports on these kinds of things just causes problems.  You can\'t just \"do\" something like this, and if dfryer was always having to post that kind of detail in his progress, not only would it be very annoying but then we\'d have everyone nagging him to finish that and move onto the next part.  The only person who would really understand any sort of detailed progress report would be the person making it.  It\'s best for everyone else to just be patient, and wait.

Indeed. Time spent posting reports could be time spent finding bugs. ;) Dfryer\'s working on it. He definitely has a working compile. I\'m not sure whether he\'s going to go bug-hunting with it or just stick it in a new DMG for download.

Well it was just a suggestion ... because between each release there are at least 2 to 3 posts about when the new one will come out.
So I thought that putting 1 sentence or 2 on the forum saying we are in that or that stage would calm people down and stop those posts.

Currently I\'m reticulating splines and calibrating the flux capacitor!

aha ... now that was a very clear statement from dfryer

Ok I admit it ... bad idea .. I guess that people will keep on posting every now and then asking when the new client will be out ....  :P
