Are you sure you read all the FAQ\'s? There were some settings you had to change for the GF4 MX cars to work properly with CS (Planeshift\'s graphical engine). And why can\'t you update your drivers? It\'s very important and I really don\'t see how it could screw up your computer if you do everything right.

To just quote the nice FAQ\'s DaveG has made:

5) GeForce draw problems:
If your GeForce graphics card is giving you weird text corruption issues, try this:

Edit the file data/config/r3dopengl.cfg with and add these lines:
Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_ARB_texture_rectangle = false
Video.OpenGL.UseExtension.GL_NV_texture_rectangle = false

1) Lag and poor performance:
If you do not meet the system requirements, expect lag. Even if you do, there can often be lag caused by network issues, which are simply unavoidable at this point.

Here are a few things you can do to help your system handle problems on your side:

   1. Update the game and your graphics card drivers.
   2. Don\'t use 16-bit color depth. CS just doesn\'t work well with it.
   3. Try enabling the adaptive distance feature in the options menu. It\'ll try and maintain a framerate by not rendering farther away objects.
   4. Try lowering the graphics settings in lower right of the setup application.
   5. You can always try lowering the game\'s resolution in the setup. If you can\'t play with 800x600 or even (the horrid) 640x480, and you\'ve tried everything else, ask for help.

Make sure you try everything and post here if it worked or not.

But you know, the GF4 MX isn\'t a great graphics card anyway, I own one myself (now I have an X800!) and it\'s not great, though you should have more than 1-5 fps when moving.

Then it\'s probably an issue with your drivers, if a simple update cripples your computer so badly. The GF4 MX isn\'t a great card, but 1-5 fps is really not good, I had less memory than you in my box with the GF4 card and I had more fps, more like 15-20.

I\'m curious which issues you get when installing the driver.
Make sure you download the official nvidia drivers for
1 the Geforce 4 mx!
2 the right OS!

I\'ve had a problem some time ago when my drivers utterly killed my machine and would only let me log into Windows in safe mode, until I reformatted several times, and until the problem crashed onto me again and I had to have someone else look at it. It was weird - just to make sure, check that your card is properly seated in its slot, that nothing is overheating, and the like. Sometimes Omega Drivers or other modified drivers work fine as well, if the official ones make your machine scream in protest.

Also, please take a loot at your PM inbox concerning the size of your sig image :)

Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

I know a similar problem - the graphic is not the bottleneck, but the texture loading from the harddisk, especially as soon as more players and NPCs come into visibility rangge. One step forward (rattle) - one step forward (rattle) - ...
