Newbie questions don\'t belong in \"Server Status\" section :)

You will be able to run your updater when all the updater mirrors will have the new files. This should happen within a few days, and we can\'t give an exact estimate. You will see it on the main page.

PlaneShift will probably approach being a \"full game\" when it reaches version 1.0 - seeing as we\'re only on 0.3 right now and PS has been in 3D development for 4-5 years, make your own estimate ;)
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

The current release version is 0.3.014, the package version is 0.3.014b (the \'b\' is just there to tell the installers apart).  The \'a\' package has updater 1.1.0.1 and the \'b\' package has 1.1.1.1.  (Click here for upgrade instructions.)

Most releases go something like this:
  • Server rebuild, and initial new client package released onto BitTorrent.  Update servers are still old.
  • Updated package released
  • Linux and Mac packages released
  • Update servers get new stuff
  • Download mirrors get new packages
(The last 3 are in no particular order.)

So, the first week getting setup is not automatic, and you have to opt to go get the full thing yourself to get on early.  Now, this isn\'t done out of spite or anything; the process of getting this stuff out isn\'t as good as we\'d like it.  There\'s essentially 2 sides to the updater coin:
  • Players:  When the update servers are ready, notifications show at the character selection screen and you just run the updater when you need to.  When the servers aren\'t ready, you need to follow instructions and not run the thing yet.  It can be a little annoying, but it all works.
  • Developers:  Annoying.  Each time we put out an update, we have to remake the repository, and put it up on 3 different mirrors.  There is futzing involved; it sucks up time.  It\'s simply not something we can do in under a day (and we can\'t all do it), due to technical issues and the time it takes to upload 1/4 GB of stuff to a half dozen places.  We\'re considering some ways to improve this system, and hopefully we\'ll eventually be able to make both sides better at some point.  For now, it all works, but you just have to be patient.
Oh, and on the \"full game thing\", we\'ll eventually hit 1.0... and then after that there\'s 2.0... :D

I\'m aware I over posted...
