We have over 20000 people registered on the forums. How many of these people actually play? It almost makes me think people just make 1000's of multiple forum accounts for no reason, because in the server itself there are barely 200 people online.

The forums opened in 2002. People register, people explore, some people leave. It's just like the number of in-game accounts - some like what they see and stick around, and some don't.

The accounts were just never deleted, so there are still accounts from years ago from people who already stopped playing.
The active community at any given moment would be how large, 500-1000 people?
I have no idea actually.

It just makes sence that you will never have all people registerd online at once. How many time zones do they players live in?

Personally I think you are just lookin for reasons to post.

I was talking about the in-game people. As there are at any given time of the day about 100 people online and asssuming not everyone is addicted and playing 24/7 that's quite some active players. Let's just say a couple hundred players.

Well, there are some very active players, but not very many of them. In some games they need tons of servers (such as Runescape) just so more and more people can play. Even though this is pre-alpha, having 20000 accounts with only 200 active players, to me, isn't very impressive. But all the people who do play are active almost all the time (and there may be more when it's night time where I live, I don't really know). It just seems to me that people register new accounts, characters, and forum names for the heck of it. I've seen about 30 new people register to the forums today, and I bet that when I go ingame once the servers are back up, none of them will actually be there, and it'll be the normal players from before.

Well I am thinking not everyone plays at once or logs onto the forums at once. Some people play once a week while others play planeshift daily. As others have mentioned, there are different time zones. Also alot of these accounts were probably made way back in the day, some of these people return and some don't. There are also people who come to the forums but who don't play the game. Some people create more than one account to post on forums mainly, most likely to keep their identity serect or for other reasons.    

I have to tend to agree with laragorn though as I don't understand the point of this thread. meh.... *Zorbels shrugs*

I know for a fact there are many players ingame that have no interest in the forums. this is their choice. Your comparison to other games is invalid as this is Pre-Alpha.
My brother, for example, is a Runescape fenatic. He tells every one he knows they should try it, but he has never checked out the forums for that game, nor has any desire to.

people come and go, its no big deal. people may register on the forums, have one question answered and then never come back. hey, to each his own.
