can't seem too launch tech demo...

i'm new to planeshift and am also very technically challenged... (i'm not even positive i know what it actually means to reboot) but ya i'm having trouble playing this... the first time i downloaded this it worked well enough up to the part where i had to log in. At that point it said something about the server and it wouldn't let me log in (i don't remember it was a few hours ago... it took me a while to finnaly decide to try the forums) so i tried updating and i kept geting messages like the upadte is newer than the server and the update is older than the server and then it just closed. so i thought i'd restart the computer but it didn't help anything so i uninstalled everything and then re-dowloaded everything again. this time i tried updating before opening it and i had the same too new/old messages. so i tried opening tech demo and i installed it and stuff but this time when i tried opening it i got a message saying:

Something unexpected happened in PlaneShift: Crystal Blue Details: ECEPTION_VIOLATION at 00b6D424

If i click no then it just closes and i get a chance to send an error report. If i click yes then i get another message:

Saved dump file to 'C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\PlanesShift_Version_Jul 04 2006_Addr00b6D424.dmp'.

that bit about seeing the forums for more details was what made me come here for help in the first place. I installed the latest version and everything but its not running properly i'm assuming. i'm really confused here and this took me forever to type because i couldn't copy and paste it... i'm not even sure the game is worth all this trouble anymore but i've wasted this much time on fixing the problem already so i'm not turning back now... unless my situation is hopeless in which case let me know.

i read the minimum requirements already and my computer meets all the requirements.

thats actually the page i downloaded planeshift from. But i''m not seeing what i should do now... i extracted the ptch file i think... I used the windows zip wizard thing but i extracted it onto the planeshift file on programs/start menu and stuff... i'm really confused, sorry i have no technical ability at all and i don't see what on that post tells me what to do... i've seen the post before, i read tons of stikys before posting my problem but i didn't think i saw the solutiion to my problem... i'm reviewing the post now but i don't see anything....   i'm really just not getting it...

Looks like you patched your start menu instead of the game.

Locate the game  folder ( typically C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue ) and unzip the files there. Select to replace any existing files, then run the updater.

ya i patched the zip thing to placeshift and stuff but it didn't work but i just started fiddeling with a bunch of stuff and double clicking on evrything because i was getting angry at it and i odn't know how but i started the updater and it worked!! and now the games working!!!!!! i have no idea how i did it but its working and i'm happy!!!!
