EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 00B6D424
« on: August 14, 2006, 05:17:04 pm »
Hello,

So this is what happened. I followed the instructions and downloaded the new PS plus the patch. I put the files into the folder and said to copy over all when it asked me.

Then I started up PS. It told me that I couldn't access it and that I needed to run the updater. So I did just that and IT told me that it was to new and that the server was to old for it to update...or something like that.

OH!Here it is "Server is out of date; stopping".

So I tried to go back into the game again, thinking. "Hey it'll work now!" But it didn't, and I got that message up above, the full one said:

"Something unexpected happened in PlaneShift:Crystal Blue Details: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 00B6D424"

Hmm...yep, Oh and the things i've tried are(not in this order):
Uninstall
Reinstall
Reboot
Update
Forums(Yes I searched and I found a thread but it didn't have the answer, unfortunatly)

If you could help me that'd be great, thank you :).

Edit: One thing I forgot was that when I first try to update it says "The server has a new updater going to fetch it" then another screen pops up and then it tells me it's to new for the server.

If you are getting a "too new for the server" message, it's likely that you didn't patch correctly or completely, since the message goes away if you have done it all right. It can be complicated

Let's try this one more time, and in this specific order:

1) Uninstall
2) Reboot
3) Reinstall
4) Download and extract patch.zip; 'Yes' on overwrite prompt
5) Run updater.exe
6) Run PlaneShift

If you get problems or see anything unusual at any step, do post about it - if this process fails for you again, we'll start thinking of some alternatives.

A note about your list miss K, for the reinstall bit, make sure that it is a clean reinstall. Meaning there isn't any olf PlaneShift folders left anywhere left over from the last uninstall.

I'm having this problem too. I downloaded the patch and I don't think i put it in the folder correctly after unzipping. I placed all the files in the patch in the Planeshift folder, and that's it, what do i do?  I tried going to run and typing updater.exe and it couldnt find it.

When you place the files into your PS folder (by default this would be C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue), you will get a prompt asking you if you want to overwrite the old files with these new ones. Make sure that you click Yes to all, so no old versions remain. After that, you just have to run updater.exe that is within your main PS folder. You can't run an application just by typing it's name with the extension into the Run command. If you are going to start the updater from the Run prompt, you have to type out its entire path, like: C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\updater.exe.

Hey... I'm a noob and I'm getting this same problem, I download the client, then run the updater. After I do that I try to play the client and it gives me that same message. I've uninstalled the game, rebooted, then reinstalled and ran the updater again and it gives me the same message... I've done this a couple times now and I was wondering if someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong.

You should read better :)
Install Planeshift, install the patch, and then update ;)
