thread deletion policy

What's the thread deletion policy in the forum?

Everyone repeat locked topics are spam and vice versa, but what's the name for deleted threads?

The example I have in though (sorry to not add a link) told about  the locking policy with few practical examples, almost half of the articles were from the team. Don't tell me they did wost than spam!

I'm sure you agree it's important for forum posters to know what is politicaly correct and can remain and what must disapear without any trace.

I don't understand your example. Can you rephrase that portion of your post please?

Generally, duplicates in the Wishlist are removed, and elsewhere replies to locked threads are removed. "No-topic" threads are removed, as well as obvious spam. This is all in the forum rules.

Sometimes, if someone starts an argument about moderators or GMs (argument more than discussion), such threads will be removed as well. This is also in the forum rules.

Is there a problem?

Sometimes thread starters will ask that their threads be removed - for example in the Guild section, if they want to start a completely new thread. Or if someone made a thread they later found the right answers to and edit their first post with "Delete this please" and not too many people have replied yet.

That's by request though.

The post I had in mind was opened by Zanzibar which asked at start if flame lock was an expected moderator behaviour then the thread was broadened to more generic cases and a lot of moderators including you had posted, this thead lasted about 4 pages. After about one day of inactivity the thread has been locked and few days after it disapeared.

I suppose if a single article justified the whole thread deletion, one in so many moderators would have wiped it instead of posting then deleting his own articles and those of his teamates.

I understand the rules and all however what is the real harm in allowing a stupid thread for people to vent a bit in?  Its not like being a moderator doesn't subject you to criticism anyways just by effect of the position.  The Hydlaa Plaza seems to be the place to do this.  It keeps it out of the regualar forums, as a sidenote.  Then as long as you didn't get too over the top hateful it should be fine?  I mean what is the real issue with that?  The Hydlaa Plazas description states

which sounds like its a perfect place for someone to vent about a moderator.  I'm not arguing with the rule so much I guess as I am wondering why it exists...

It is because we are human too, and do our work here in our free time, and don't want to see public debates on whether people think we are doing the job well or not. It can be disheartening to us, and rumours or hear-say can damage the reputations of otherwise decent people. This rule also applies to Game Masters for the same reasons. We are not professionals and do not make perfect decisions 100% of the time, but this does not mean people should vent anger towards us whenever they become unhappy with something. Instead we encourage anyone with an issue to PM us so we can work things out in private, in a sensible fashion. This also solves the problem quicker and easier.

Moderators will not act without reason or cause; this is a rule we must abide by. Admins, such as Vengeance, will never do it either, even though it is in their rights to do whatever they wish.

Which explains why posts where people flame me slip through, yet my own posts get deleted on a whim. ;)

I don't think there is anything more to focus on - we've explained as best as we could without Venge's own input, and if it is his input that you need at this point, contact him or wait for his reply here. I can't speak for him and I never will. Us 'little mods' follow the rules you all know about, and if there are problems with us, please use PMs. If Venge feels that further actions needs to be taken sometimes, he takes them and doesn't necessarily have to explain himself to us.

Zanzibar,

I have certain people whose posting history I check specifically whenever I come to the forums.  You are one of them because you are routinely difficult, argumentative and looking to draw people into pointless arguments.  You also post spammy comments with numerous quotes from other people with responses such as "Thank you", which are a waste of acraig's disk space.  PM the original poster if you wish to thank them.

If you believe others' flames of you are going unnoticed, report them.  A better solution though, would be to not act in ways which result in such flaming.

As far as the rest of this thread goes, sometimes I will delete threads which have gotten too far offtopic to edit back to normalcy, or which have gotten so negative and cancerous as to cause a bigger problem than they are solving.  I do NOT delete thoughtful threads about the numerous ways in which PS sucks, or other types of systematic censorship.  I delete things which I believe have no redeeming value (or have hurtful value) to the forum or the community.
