http://www.3dcafe.com is a prety nice site, lots of tutorials on  variety of 3d programs. 3d studio max is the easiest in my oppinion and u can get gmax(there\'s a link for the download on Kada-El\'s site http://thebbb.tk)for free if u wanna practise.

Good luck, all it takes is a little bit of talent and a lot of time :)

Yes, that 3D-Max that Kada\'El links to is a very nice little thing to play with and has a very nice tutorial.

That depends on the tool.  If you want something free, try Blender.  Great little tool, just not as full featured and matured as the professional ones (lots of web sites about it though ).  If you want to spend some money, then I have found Truespace to be real good for begginers.  Their site has quite a few tutorials, but you may want to buy a book to get up and running.  As said above, 3D Studio Max is a very good program for maps, buildings, etc., but I have heard that Maya is the \"bomb\"/\"bee\'s knees\" if you want to do profesional grade character modeling work.  It\'s around $2K USD and you would definately have to buy book or take classes to learn it (so I have heard).

a really great tool you might want to try out is Wings3D.
it\'s the the quickest most intuitive modeler out there AND IT\'S FREE! http://www.wings3d.com

it\'s what i do all my stuff in .. here are a couple models i made in wings  http://www.vftf.com/wings

one limitation is that you can\'t do animation with wings. but this is not a problem really as you can export your model to all the popular formats for use in the program of your choice.

hope this helps :)

Art of Illusion is a niffty project.  http://www.artofillusion.org
It\'s a free, open source 3D modelling and rendering studio.  I havent played with it much, but I know it can do animations also.

9rin: you can even import your Wings 3d models

Well i suggest you try blender. It\'s free an just gone open source. The interface is a bid odd at first but you will get used to it very fast and you will see that it is very intuitive. It doesn\'t have all the cool futures as commercial packages but you can make very good stuff with it.

I needed to correct my post but if I only did an edit, you would most likely not see it. The program I meant to mention was G-Max. It is a free version of 3D-Max and that is the program used by most of this team. G-Max is not compatable with 3D-Max but will get you started in understanding the program. Then if you like it, buying the 3D-Max is your best bet.

I\'ve got to say that Art of Illusion is really good. It may look a bit clumsy. But you\'ll get the hang of it in no time. It\'s really intuitive, you can basicly start creating models with hardly any tutorials.
