Patch doesn't work

I installed the patch, deleted the version.dat file, and now when i try to run the updater again, it eats up all the cpu and does nothing as of 15 minutes.

  recovery mode doesn't work either, rebooted 2 times

Have you tried running the updater without deleting version.dat?

AMD athlon 3200+/2 ghz CPU
512 Ram
NVIdia GeForce4 440 Go 64mb

I was running PS before the patch and it worked fine, but the updater would also crash

Yes, it told me to delete version.dat for it to work or something like that

Yes, and I keep getting that message about the updater being newer than the server.  Then the whole thing stops.  I just uninstalled and am going to reboot and try again.  I will follow those directions to the letter and then go from there.  Thank you for you time, I really appreciate it.

I'm not sure if this is a good thing, but i can run the game without running the updater
