Hammers, Riveters of differing quality.
« on: September 20, 2006, 12:29:19 am »
Like warriors having varying weapons, some better than others, I think it would be a good addition to have crafters to have crafting tools of differing quality.  My reason extends beyond a new dynamic within the crafting system.  I think these items should be lootable or occasionally in some random fashion produced in a difficult quest.

The reason being, crafters who can sell weapons to warriors for cash, set the price.  The free market can bring this price down I'm sure.  But instead of having a unilateral price setting, why not have high quality riveters or hammers capable of being looted from various rogues, mercenaries that can be sold to the crafters.  This has the prospect of having multilateral trade.  Like an ancient system of barter, where cash wasn't the only monetary system.  There can be a tool for weapon trade.  That wouldn't be a unique feature obviously as the status quo allows that.  But the idea that one niche isn't dependant on the production/monopoly of another seems more realistic.

I don't know, I think there could be good arguments for and against.  But at the very least, quality of tools is something to think about, as its more realistic.  Those with better tools, in addition to their skill level, will make better weapons.

I like this idea ... for the reasons you've already mentioned ;)

This brings up memories btw! Once Harnquist sold a "Sharpened Rockpick" in addition to the std. Rockpick. I wonder why it was taken out.
