Drahlian is evil. When I created her, I knew I wanted her to be evil, but wasn't sure in what way. Fortunately in her first hour of play, she met two quite irritating dwarves at the forest rogue (back before the world changed a few months ago). They were trying to hog the rogue, and being generally rude. Something clicked, and in that instant, the Dwarfslayer was born. Thank you Samuelious and Benjulious.

I had a lot of fun with her, and I think *most* of the people she RP'd with had fun too, though I know there were always a few that mistakenly assumed that if Drahlian was a racist in PS, then the player behind her must be a racist too. In the times where I thought some *player* was being offended by my RP, I would send a private /tell saying "This is RP. Drahlian hates dwarves, but I don't really hate you. Let me know if you want me to go away."
Oftentimes when I killed a weaker dwarf, I would either immediately /die and meet them in the DR, or find them soon afterward. I would secretly compliment them on their courage, and often give them some money or a nice weapon to get them started. I would of course ask them never to reveal that I was nice to them, and as far as I know, they always kept their promise.

Anyway I think it is key to make sure that the *player* knows it is just RP. If they aren't having fun, then it's time to move on, apologize for the misunderstanding in a private /tell, and pick on a different character. Drahlian was only evil to dwarves, and would generally be friendly with any other races. Truthfully, I'm "secretly" good friends OOC with most of the dwarves that are my biggest IC enemies.
