Oddly Valued Sword
« on: October 26, 2006, 02:03:32 am »
I just picked up an Alexandrite Encrusted Longsword and it was valued at about 681 trias. It boasted a slash rating above a normal longsword 3.2 or so and thus should have been valued at a premium. Has anyone else seen this and is this the new "normal?" Or is this the result of a bug I don't know about?

The prices have NEVER made much sense since the modifiers were introduced.  There are weapons with slashes of 1/10th (yes, one tenth) which have sold for over 100,000 trias.  And we know how much dark, frosty, fire, scortched, icey, iron, and silverweave weapons sell to Harnquist for.

It's still a work in progress.  It used to be that you could have up to ten modifiers on a single weapon, and they'd all be culmulative.  Now, I don't see weapons with more than two modifiers, and only the first modifier counts in determining the properties of the item.  But that has other problems associated with it.

At least we don't have any more 300 slash daggers, or quest items that sell for 85 million trias...

True enough but typically the fancy ones have always been worth more than plain ones unless they were tattered, stained ruined or etc. And not even then always. For example a stained longsword of clear thought was worth more than a plain LS, due to the +20 int no doubt. I haven't priced it lately, however so it might have changed.

I seem to recall selling a weapon of "Talad's Arm" before the weapon wipe ...Harnie was willing to pay 14k for it ...a player paid more
<edit> really shouldn't post before at least one cup of coffee  :-X ...the whole reason I was posting this weapon was that, numberwise, it was not very powerful ...but had outrageous value.

I remember having a dagger of Talad's Arm that had a high slash value though....

I had three different type's of weapons named after Talad. All three were very low in slash but very high in trias. I couldn't wield two of the weapons without the aid of certain potions. I know for sure one of them ... if not all three changed a certain stat or skill of mine to a higher number. That could possiably be why they were worth so much?

hmmm really strange. You really wonder what the one who was typing the prizes and slashes was thinking of at the time. Sometimes wonder if the random generator wasn't used :P

Hmmm .... that must have been my imagination then ....  :o or maybe I stopped to eat some mushrooms? Nope I don't like mushrooms, and my imagination doesn't control my eye sight ..... so how did I see my stat or skill (can't remember which one it affected) raise?  ;) Maybe I have it mixed up with another type of sword, but I don't think so. Did anyone else have a sword named after Talad raise their stat or skill?

Yeah.  Daggers of Talad raised agility I think.
