an art request
« on: January 07, 2007, 10:02:37 pm »
i think this fits best here...

i'm looking to try for a video adaptation of at least one of my shorter works. either one of the sketchs or "the lucky". basically it will be a set of stills with a voice over reading the text.

i'm looking for three or four scenes from one work. backgrounds can be suggested.

http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=18926.0  <-- the sketches
http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=20883.msg228955#msg228955 <-- who are the lucky

any questions, or such i'm easy enough to track down either here or in #planeshift

Hello. Can you explain the way how you suppose to work. For example, one artist can create backgrounds, the another can create characters (in 2d, and even can animate it)... Then someone will create a soundtrack (musick, voices etc). Then how you will unite those parts into video, in what programm (Windows Movie Maker, After Effec, etc)?
Which sketch is your favorite?

probably end up working in premier pro.

it won't be animated. at the most it will simple pans, and zooms, but that will depend on the art and story.

wish i could find an example of what i'm looking for, but... i think the first what-a-mess, by frank muir, tv set of shorts is about what i'm after.

a bit of what i'm looking for is something like a set of detailed storyboards.

the voice over will read the text and the scene will change with the text.

for music... probably be an intro, and outro, but maybe little in between.

as for a favorite, well... hard to choose. but "the unfolding hoas" would be at the bottom of the list for a project like this.

What do you think about macromedia format? With this kind of animation in rolics it will be more suitable to use .swf - less weight. The only bad thing i see - not enough cool transitions-effect, but .... this is not important to good story.

O'key, i read this sketches.. don't know what to say. This stories have such small close format and a lack of plot dynamics---> i see not rich visualization for this stories ---> it is like to make illustrations to verse: 1 illustrations is usually enough....
BUT, i think, for the first sketch (with battle) interesting video could be done. You mentioned some video that you see as prototype for story visualisation. Could you give us some link?
What is the whole style of picture you see - anime, cartoon, realistic, full-colored, monochrome? As for me, i imagine the style like in "Disciples 2" rolics.

wish i could. been searching and all i can find are references to it. perhaps, if you've ever seen those court room sketches, when they don't allow cameras into the court, the news channels have a sketch artist run up a sequence of sketches and then the anouncer talks over them.

full-coloured. near realistic, but closer to anime/cartoon then realistic.

Hi. Any news? For example we take that first sketch ("Loyalty for that is never misplaced") for screening. Could you make a principal scenario\layout in that case? Also, you've got to name main dramatis personae with full descriptions. Also, i think, you should wrote a little prehistory that explain story events - it will be usefull, of course.
And, just for sure, because of my bad english and your difficult style of narration, could you repeat this story in few words? The morality of  the tale...

loyalty, in a few words or less
a leuitenant, is given a difficult/impossible task by a commander of questionable ablity. he ends up getting hit by an area effect fire spell, killing most of his men. he wakes up bandaged/severly injured in a hospital tent of the opposing side. the other commander tries to convince him that he has nothing to feel guilty about.

the one telling the story, a menki, no real preference for colouring, nothing exceptional in appearence.

as for back history, doesn't matter, too much.

So, i try to do it myself. Let it be a sketch for scenario.

1 scene. Murky evening.
A battlefield. Two armies prepare to last struggle. One army a much smaller then opposite. In front of the forward formation stands captain - a menki. He is on the Tyrex - he is battle jarah. He looks at the opposite edge of battlefield - Quite Demon and his yliaki start their threatening march. Battle horns start to blow.
Captain turn back and look at his commander wich stands on the hill at the distant...

2 scene. Hopeless dialogue. (Flashback)
Commander and captain stand on the hill and talk. They look at battlefield, at their weary yliaki troops. Dying campfires...

3 scene. Battle.
Terrible, dynamic battle. Everithing mixed in deadly slashing. At one moment lieutenant truly realise that they were being beatn bakc. The dawn come to end and the day was lost. He ordered his men to retreat. BUt some of his warriors stayed with him to win some timу for their commrads.
Then sudden fire blast end up the battle. Captain lays on the ground surrounding by dead bodies of his faithful warriors. Dead Tyrex exhaled last time.

4 scene. Epilogue.
Blur. Voices. Uncertain pictures. Captaint lays on the ground surrounded by moving hazy figures. Night falls on the world...
He comes to himself in the dark tent. He hears the dialog of two. He sees silhouette on the tent wall near thi entrance.
Then in tent entered dark big figure. Torch lighted up it - it was a Quiet Demon, colonel Viscosa - his enemy.
The last dialogue.

So, check it, Steuben. You've got to comment it. By the time, next question:
What are the races of Demon, Captain's Commander, yliaki?

the demon, a ylian.

yliaki, http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=14670.0 explains it best.

as for the captain's commander, your call. but i hadn't seen him as a kran. maybe a ynnwn. but definately foppish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fop

the armies are actually of nearly the same size.

i had originally thought of the forces as infantry. hmm. hadn't though of captain as mounted. not sure if it works with his character. i get back to you on that.... *edit* run it as all infantry. the captian doesn't seem like the kind of guy to lead infantry mounted.

the battle itself took place over a fairly short period of time. no more then an hour or so.

*ediT*
i will probably end up swapping scenes 1 and 2 in production

but it should work.
