Funky Graphics
« on: January 29, 2007, 06:39:47 am »
I got me a laptop and installed Fedora Core 6.  It's a Dell Inspiron E1505 and I'm running at 1280x800 res (the game is normal res though in windowed mode) and using the proprietary "intel" driver.  When I run Planeshift, I get this:
Screenie

I updated once and decided to run it again and got a message about a failure, check it out:
Screenie

Could that failed update be causing my graphics problem, or is it something else?

Looks to me like you just need to run  xgamma to brighten up the display.  Mine is very dark too so typically I'll run
Code: [Select]
xgamma -gamma 1.8 you can try different values. Alternatively, you might be able to use krandr to set the gamma correction in a visual manner. It has a greyscale bar that you use, when you can see all the separate stages you have found the proper setting.

Hmm, having taken my own advice it now seems like it might not be your probiem Is your screen to dark or are you missing some textures, I can't quit tell.

I wouldn't worry about the "up" failing, I get that all the time.

The transparencies on my wings are really weird, my character model is funny looking.  When I select a character, the red spiraling design is just a mesh of pixels spinning under the character.  I'm going to see if I can turn up the amount of memory allotted for the on-board video and see if that helps.

If your using an onboard card, then you don't really meet the requirements to play the game.

I know, I posted this though to see if anybody had any ideas about options I could change to remedy the issue.

You might try the texture downsampling option in the planeshift-setup

I had funky graphics here, too using the binary (I have an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro and I'm using DRI, not the prop. ATI-driver). Compiling PlaneShift myself fixed it, seems to be a mesa-issue.
