Loading Problem
« on: February 11, 2007, 09:56:52 am »
Hi I know this topic has come on repeatedly but I still don't understand what my problem is.

My mac computer is version 10.4 and I recently dowloaded planeshift 10.4.8.
When I try loggin in it goes to the character selection screen saying that there are new updates available.

Next I try logging in but the game quits on the loading screen.

So I try to update the game with the updater that came with it...... didn't work
Next I downloaded the updater from the easy 3-step guide (the 10.4) one and tried to update it...... didn't work :'(

On both updaters it said during the dowload that mirror 1 doesn't work so it uses mirror 2 and thene says checking repository version.
Then it stops and doesn't seem to go anywhere from that part.

What should I do?

Thanks

there is a very high chance that the updaters don't work yet. The update servers haven't been updated themselves (oh the irony).

you will have to reinstall planeshift.

when you run it next time go to terminal (in the utilities folder in the applications folder) and type cd
then click and drag the psclient.app icon into the terminal window
hit the return key
then type ./Contents/MacOS/psclient_static -fullbright and hit return (you can copy and paste that line into the terminal window)

planeshift should run much smoothy and with less bugs/crashes but will not look as pretty. Hopefully there will be a minor update soon that will fix everything.

Ignore any messages that the client tells you to update or that there are new updates available, always check the forums for now or ask a GM or developer

have fun

./Contents/MacOS/psclient_static -fullbright

I get,

ERROR: csInitializer::SetupConfigManager failed!

Are you sure that line is correct?

it definately was at one point in the past when i was playing with 0.18.

if you read my other recent post the topic below this one you'll see that i was messing around with the environment variables and after which i got that error

what else have you been trying to do?

Just in case it was not clear, you're going to have redownload a whole new CLEAN client from the torrent or the full download mirrors on the site's download page. Then you'll want to run that. You may just want to use PSClientCMD.jar (available from the Guide thread).

If you do it from the Terminal, the correct procedure is to type "cd " (there's a space after "cd" in case you couldn't tell), then drag your Planeshift folder into the Terminal and hit return. Then type (or copy/paste from here) "psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient_static -fullbright" and hit return. Again, if you're going to be launching PS with -fullbright on a regular basis, I suggest you use PSClientCMD.

EDIT: clarity about the space after "cd"

Nyramael, that line is definitely not correct.  You need to be in the folder containing the .app, not inside the .app folder itself, then the line that Cha0s gave should work.

What OS are you running (including PPC or Intel)? Also, make sure that you DO NOT update, no matter what you hear anywhere else. Download a clean version from the website of the Torrent and do NOT update it.

The current release may not work on Intel. Try a clean install, though and see how it goes.

It says on the top menu list { the one with pictures of apple, file, edit) that the planeshift client i have is planeshift-static, does that mean anything?

Nope, that's normal. That's the new client.

Have you tried the fix mentioned near the end of the "Display Problems in 0.17" thread?  You may be crashing due to a graphics driver bug, requiring you to disable texture compression.
