New to PlaneShift.
« on: March 14, 2007, 06:01:56 pm »
Hey guys,

Been reading up on the game, seems like a cool idea. Kudos to the Dev team.  \\o//
I am looking for a new game and home. What type of game is PS ?

Its it group game? Mostly solo? We have raids bosses?

I am more a community type player, like EQ was.
How is the combat? Hows the AI on the mobs?
Most  importantly what classes we have here, i am hoping a Necro well close to it.

Thank you guys, got to get back to work, later.

Sounds like you should continue reading up on the game :P

For one, Planeshift's in Alpha-testing stage, which means it's a long way off from being a finished product (like EQ).
For two, there's no real 'classes', in fact there's not even 'levels' - your character's standing is determined by how far up you've trained your stats and skills.
For three, The combat is rather basic, with an almost non-existent AI - two characters fight until one dies. No aggro-management or NPC skills or anything like that... Which means no raids, either.

Planeshift is popular because of its take on RPing - most games aren't as RP-intensive as PS is.

Welcome to the boards, Luisagos :)

PlaneShift is rather early in development, so not all features are there (and many are limited).

1. We have no classes, but a skill-based system. You choose what skills to train in any combination and number you may want.
2. Currently our NPC AI is taking baby steps - NPCs will walk towards their attackers, but that's about the extent of it :) We're trying to get them to run now. There are no boss NPCs at the moment, although you may see a King Ulbernaut (or its equivalent) surrounded by its lesser minions with time :]
3. The key point in PlaneShift is active roleplay - it is both encouraged and to a certain extent enforced in the game. As the number of things to do using game mechanics is still rather low, players form their own quests, stories, and adventures.

Magic is suffering a bit at the moment, but we're aware of the many issues surrounding it and the need for balancing, and Xordan is our magic guy on the team who will be working to fix it. You can take a look at a pretty thorough magic guide here. The Guides and Tutorials section itself is a good place for potential players, so I would recommend some browsing whenever you have time.

Hope you enjoy your stay :)
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Roleplay in the most extreme sense of the word (not like WoW or GW or EQ)

Usually group and social interaction. Can be solo if that is what you want, might be a bit lonely though. Ummm, Raid bosses? no raids, no bosses as such in the game.

That will help you out here :o)

Combat is OK IMO. AI is terrible.

Dont know what Necro is?? But there are several races to pick from, and we dont really have classes in the traditional sense eg, palladins, warriors, hunters. but you are free to play any role you like (provided it is within the settings)

FYI: Necro = Necromancer, A raiser of the dead who uses his pets to fight / tank while he sits back and either roots then nukes or regens mana...

This game is not currently set up to be able to use this style of play :( in time maybe? Necro is a VERY cool class to play esp. if you like to play a more traditional style of "evil" character... they are to a shadow knight what a enchanter is to a paladin.
gentoo lovers will laugh at our description :)

If you want to be a necromancer or something like that I recommend you become a Diaboli magician and choose the Dark Way as your magic. Or something like that.

For all the rest: you could also actually play the game and find out yourself ;)
We're not evil. We're simply amazing.

Here, check this:

http://www.planeshift.it/races.html

I suppose you should chose kran. It looks like a necro and has very high attack/defense. And perhaps with the correct armor...

not really.necromancers are a type of wizard/magician. They summon stuff, and use it to kill other stuff. It would take a smart kinda guy to do that, and krans are...well..stupid.
Talamir - DeT, Dark Empire, etc, etc, etc.
