Got a new Graphics card and im havin toubles
« on: April 14, 2007, 06:45:06 am »
Hey,
yesterday i got a new Geforce 7600gs and im havin touble with the installation. mi power supply doesnt have the 4 pin power supplier for it. i was wondering if neone knows how big a power supply that can run one of these is. i hav an Iwill xp4-g

http://www.ixbt.com/mainboard/images/barebones-2k3-jul/xp4-g/xp4-g-3-4-sm.jpg

as u can see its small. atm the power supply in it is six centimeters long with a bit sticking out the back reckon i can fit a power supply that has enough power in that space. if not can u switch cases? and how much it cost (roughly)

if noones has ne ideas... well monday im taking it to some computer guys... walk in here make this work walk out. and fingers crossed lol.

all (nearly anyways) PC power supply units are the same size, unless you were stupid and got a PC that the manufacturer uses non standard size parts, thus only allowing you to use their proprietary parts, thus being able to charge you a boat load when you want to replace something.

If I could see the picture, I would have a better understanding what you mean, but clicking the link, takes me to a page saying I'm forbidden to see that page.

if a standard power supply will not fit, are you sure the video card will?

found time to do a search to try and get what you're talking about.. .  ah, you have a mini.  http://www.hothardware.com/reviews/images/iwill_xp4/back.htm

yeah, those are good for lan parties.  easy transport and stuff.  can be a pain to upgrade though.

proprietary case design so you'll have to go with a power supply made specifically to fit inside those things.  (a quick Google search i did yielded no results to where you can get one.)

Or you can go with a new case and use a standard power supply, but a word of caution to that option as well.  The mobo for the mini may not fit inside a normal case, that being, the connector screw holes on the mini's mobo may not line up with the holes on the case, since the case is designed for standard mobo's, not mobo's made to fit inside mini cases.

Thus, I remake my point on using non standard conforming devices and then trying to upgrade them.

depends on if you can find a mobo that will accept all the other parts from the mini.

or they will tell you, sorry, we can't.  or maybe, they'll tell you they can but then basically charge you for an entire system upgrade in order to get all the pieces to work with each other......

my suggestion would be to go talk to your compy buds on monday, but don't be surprised if they tell you something similar.  just wait and see what they say, and take things from there.

the two major areas that could be problematic would be making sure that the new mobo accepts the same CPU and the same RAM that the other mobo takes.  Also, you'd want to make sure that new vid card of yours also was accepted by the new mobo.

or maybe you won't have to worry about it and there will be a power supply upgrade option for the mini, but the research i was doing said that your mini only has a small 200-250 watt power supply in it, indicating that it in computer terms, your mini is old as dirt.  So finding something for that thing may be problematic.
