Just an honest question
« on: May 24, 2007, 05:32:25 pm »
Ok. I've been thinking...uh oh. Here's the thing. I love my guild and my current character. But lets say one day I get bored and decide to make myself a new character. And we all know we have to rp our character. So I was thinking, I would probably create someone totally opposit of what my current player is.

Is there anything keeping me from joining a new guild with my new character? Or anything like that...?

Something I was hoping to get answered or explained a little. ::|

there really is nothing to stop you, infact no one else would know if you dont tell them your new char. and all. but I do know lots of people have alts, and several of those are in multiple guilds. And I am sure that there is many more that just dont say they do that too ;)
but yes playing a totally diffrent char from time to time can make things more exciting and be nice change now and then :)

By the way, there are guilds around which don't like it if you've alts in other guilds. Or at least want to know about it. Of course they wouldn't know it if you don't tell them. And if one would separate IC and OOC for 100%, it won't give problems. That's theory though, in practice people rarely reach that 100% .

Plus there is the griefing related with the bad practice of alt-espionage, and as making new accounts is trivial, anybody could make a somewhat effective, but completely OOC, Intelligence Agency, provided one has enough alts inside several guilds. Of course such action wouldn't be well seen by the community, besides being arguably a form of cheating and perhaps something that deserves a ban if caught.

Just think about it: You have an alt on guild X that is an enemy or at least rival of the guild Y where your main character is. Then through your alt you discover something really important that could be used against guild X. "Playing dumb" not only is difficult, but also isn't fun at all.

well thats  kinda why you dont get into conflicting guilds or you tell your leader that you are in X guild and that its not fair for him/her to ask you to betray that guild if something comes up after you have joined them and all. Or if you can find out the inf you your other char knows by using the char. that needs it. I don't know, just a thought, but it can and has been done.

As for having multiple characters, there is nothing wrong with it at all .. as long as you can force yourself to not share knowledge you gathered with one character with your other alts. See them as individuals and don't let them get involved with eachother. Else you're risking to step on people's toes for reasons mentioned already and for using information in an OOC way.
