How to change renderers? Specifically to d3d.
« on: June 17, 2007, 05:58:19 am »
sup all.

well these are my computer specs and they meet the requirments.

OS Microsoft XP
612MB RAM *disabled most manufacturer crap and other stuff uneeded with msconfig to save all of our time*
3.2Ghz, MMX, 3dnow
DX9
SP2
64 mb card, full acceleration, supports opengl, d3d-- updated drivers.

so anyway the game runs moderatley well except the occasional drop in fps.
tested with some of the lower settings, higher. i feel openGL just isn't the renderer for me either way.  :ban:

i hear that others were able to switch to software rendering. so is there anyway I can switch at all? i can't find this option anywhere. is it the configs? need of assistance to change, if possible and directions on doing so.

openGL isn't a renderer, it's just an API. But regardless of that, our engine doesn't support DirectX natively, so openGL is the only thing we have available. As for software rendering, I think the run option is --video=software, but don't expect to get much better performance, and you will get worse quality. Software rendering is much slower than hardware (both GL and D3D are hardware).

Right-click on your shortcut to Planeshift.
Click Properties.
Look at the target.
It's probably something like "C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\psclient.exe"
Now change it to "C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\psclient.exe" --video=software
Click OK.
You're done.
