Performance in Linux is below windows levels.
« on: October 10, 2007, 08:39:45 am »
Same laptop, same version, same hardware, same connection...

Different OS, and it's running slugish now.

I'm running Kubuntu 7.04, the game runs poorly, i have 3D accel enabled, using the i810 driver for the 945GM.

What can i do to get more performance out of the game, the settings leave a lot to be desired.

Also, increasing brightness. How?

I have noticed the same for a long time.
We play PS her on two linux and two windows machines. The windows clients are way faster than the linux ones. Why? i don't know. Maybe someone who got some development skills can tell us why.

I do have to mention that on SuSE, the game loads faster if you play the game as root. same as the main question... i don't know why.

greetz...

can't comment on windows/linux speed diff as I only run linux, but I did add 1gb of ram a short while ago with no appreciable speed gain so as I run openSuse I'll give running under root a go.

I noticed that also. Therefore you can try to compile the Game by yourself and use some Tuning Options at the Compiling.

Hmh, can someone post a link to the latest stable source code and compilation instructions?

I might be able to compile 32bit versions on multiple archs with a separate package for each major arch, then mirror it.

Think i'll do a Core 2 Duo one first, see if i get many gains, i'll leave all other compilation values the same as default.

One more question, does the game run any better in 16 bit or in fullscreen?

Actually I'm confused, in my Linux (opensuse 10.3 with an Nvidia geforce FX 5500), it runs better. For instance the tunnel that goes out  west of the magic shop is always a bit choppy in Windows, let it is smooth and nice in Linux.
