Scratchy background music, sounds like birds etc. are ok.

Weird problem. I just reloaded PS to try it again (haven't played since platinum mining was removed) and when I load it up to play, everything seems fine, except the background music is scratchy and crackly sounding. All else seems good. I can hear bird sounds and other sounds fine. It is odd. Video and everything is fine. My machine is a core 2 duo 6300 w/ 2Gb ram and a radeon x800xl video card, using onboard sound. Sound works fine in all the other games I play. Any hints would be much appreciated. I LOVE the background music in the game and would like to be able to turn it back up again. Please help.

try seeing if your motherboard manufacturer has updated drivers for it, particularly the sound drivers.

Thx for the tip, but all my drivers are up to date (motherboard and video card).

Anyone else have any tips or suggestions to try??

I have this problem too. I never managed to figure out why, either. However, I noticed that if I turn my volume knob up and down once or twice, it clears up.

That would suggest that you have a dusty pot then, on your volume knob.  If you continue turning it back and forth for an extended time, it should work the dust out of it and come good again.

Bumping this because I'm having same problem, I use Realtek HD Audio speakers, I have like, 8 of them and a bass, haven't found the problem yet.

have you updated your sound card drivers like i asked the other person to?

i have a small sollution to the realtek cards atleast as i have a realtek to
if the sound scratches eather wait it out or atleast from my observations is that if you start up another program when it's at it's worst the sound should go normal, does for me anyway and i use the latest none HD drivers, but this litle "trick" if you wish seems to work for me all the time not always right away but still

This last solution works well....Don't know why ,... but that work. Thanks
