Xfire - maybe will support PlaneShift!!!
« on: July 08, 2007, 07:37:45 pm »
I like PlaneShift a lot and I use Xfire.
http://www.xfire.com

right and so Planeshift ins't supported by them so I made a thread on their forums suggesting that they add it to their supported games. I think it might be getting somewhere.  :woot:

What do you guys think?

Why couldn't you just join in the game and find out if your friend is online... there is a whole 1 server.
Also, having IM in-game through this probably won't be allowed since that would break the Roleplaying aspect of the game and the immersion to it.  So, for me, and probably a lot of others.. I would say that X-fire should not support PS and vise-versa.

Just my 2 cents,
Allad

The channels of conversation inside PlaneShift already can be used for pretty much every kind of OOC chat you wish. You can speak privately to someone OOCly with /tells, or make an OOC "chat room" with a /invite using the usually OOC GROUP channel. The channel where roleplaying should be almost constant is the MAIN one, where sometimes people insist on making clearly OOC /shouts .

...

xfire is much more than chatting

its also better for people to find patches for games (instead of searching sites or forums) and it also has your game time. so I support XFire.

For PlaneShift, the time when you began playing matters more than how many hours you play daily I think, as many of the good RPers I know rarely log in besides weekends, as real life always come first, and usually, adult people are more mature than the pre-teenage usual 1337 for roleplaying, and adult people can't play hours and hours long because they have responsabilities.

Plus there are usually no "patches" for planeshift.  Everything just rolls in through the updater (on the rare occasions its actually working)

From what I understand, this program lets you use an IM to speak to other games and/or outside the actual game, causing a disturbance of RP,.. correct me if I am wrong.

if one is in the RP spirit, the minute they see their character again they will be all for rping. so no, this will not disturb rp.

and about this, you dont have to use it. I will personally, but thats me. actually I might turn it off during PS because I was talking to my friend through Xfire and the game (SP) got all laggy. Maybe Xfire shouldnt be for PS come to think of it.

Can't hurt. Its just a fancy IRC anyway.
Hide where they expect you to... Its what they least expect.

XFire + PS = Pointless.

Until v1.0 at least. Before then, it's simply more work for the dev team, that could be better spent on in-game features and assets. And we want features and assets, don't we?

[edit: sorry for dragging up this topic - didn't look at the last post-date, just followed the link from here...]

If i read the x-fire site correctly they only support windoze, why would a game that works on Mac Linux and Windoze add support for a program that only works on one operating system. I dont think they will ever add support for x-fire, or even want to as this is a role playing game and they devs most likely will see this as a way to distract players from role playing and have them chatting with other people outside the game out things not related to the game. Maybe in 20-30 years they might consider it, but dont cross your fingers.
