In game time
« on: January 01, 2008, 09:15:54 pm »
Can someone explain how the time works in game? If I get in game at 7 PM my time shouldn’t always be 3 PM in game? It seems odd that if get into game at the same time each day it is not the same time in game. Aren’t there 24 hours in a day? I would rather play while it is day time because it is so dark at night I cannot see the game at all.

Thank you,

Leama.

The problem is that during server crashes, the time resets to 12 AM. Then, after 12 AM, comes 12 PM (for some odd reason...only in crashes). Therefore, the time's never gonna be the same. Also, the obvious reason, the time that the hour changes isn't an even number, so it's bound to be different.

This is by intent. The idea is making it so a character has the opportunity to experience both day and night rather than only "living" during the same hours each day. The time scale is near to 5 to 1, making it the case itll be a different time each day when you log in.

Sort of unrealistic though.
In-game time is so random that people don't even roleplay their characters' sleep anymore. They just stand in a big circle for "days" talking non-stop.

To make it realistic, ingame time would have to wheel on way slower than realtime.
An ingame day passes that fast that the player wont ever be able to have his char make use of it realistically, typing speed and such just wont allow it. I would love to have day-night changes involved in my rp but meanwhile I had to give it up and most of the time I simply ignore it.
Also, be out of the game for, lets say 10 hours would mean everytime you log in you would have to find an excuse where has your char been the last 100 ingame-hours (4-5 days).

Sleeping, of course.  :P

I just find it funny that my guys can be up for a whole day and more.... but i'm not about to stop everything just because it's night (poor people near Harn's.... bing! bing! bing! all night long).

I'm not sure about slowing down the days, though. Makes for long nights....  I'd have to see that, see how it feels, how it works out, before deciding if i'd like it or not. It's an interesting idea, i think.

Kinda of a hard thing to deal with, though: there's no really ideal solutions.... just best compromises.
