« on: February 26, 2008, 08:58:42 pm »
I installed the game now when I click on the desktop icon to start the game I get "Failed to execute child process "/opt/PlaneShift/updater" (Permission denied)" why is this and how do I get the game to start?

Hey Shadowmeph,

i think you forgot to set the permissions during the installation?

there are 2 options.  :)

Option1:
you can try the following: open a terminal enter

the following lines depents on your linux distrubution...

Code: [Select]
sudo chmod 777 /opt/PlaneShiftor
Code: [Select]
su chmod 777 /opt/PlaneShiftor
Code: [Select]
sudo su chmod 777 /opt/PlaneShiftor
login as root and then chmod 777 /opt/PlaneShift

Option2:
is to reinstall PlaneShift and install it again .. and don't forget set the permission during the install on 777 and the group "your linux login name"

i hope it will help.

ok I am a complete noob at this I tried those commands and I can't start the game so I will have to reinstall what is the correct way to do this because I don't remember any thing/options to install it differently except at the beginning of the install it asks for installation directory opt ( not sure what that means)

congrats for installing :)

Lags are absolutely normal in Hydlaa a lot of players have problems especialy near the Harnquist where a lot of people are.
An other problem is the grass you can download this map http://planeshift.alphasys.nl/downloads/complete_hydlaa_without_grass_by_Hassadria.zip

Unzip the file, to get the three maps. Replace the ones in planeshift/art/world/ with these ones.

The easiest way to do this is to start the terminal type in
Code: [Select]
sudo nautilus then you are allowed to move, copy or replace files with sudo right.
