Unable to resize some windows smaller
« on: March 03, 2008, 10:26:47 pm »
I decided to post here as opposed to bugs as this probably isn't a bug but lack of experience on my part.

In 0.3.20 I was able to resize my shortcuts and chat window down to a reasonable size to fit on my screen. I can only reduce them so much now.

I play in 640x480 window mode. I've checked a xml file (shortcutwindow specifically) and resize is on, but didn't see a minimus restriction to size.  If I change scale font to disabled the words are really small.  I haven't changed font size in the xml file however and might give that a try. was just hoping that i could resize in game and have the font adapt.

oh and in psclient i have font scaling to 115%, not sure if that changes things as well.

Thanks for any help.

some windows can not be made too small and others have issues with the resize handle not keeping your mouse, sorry not much that can be done about this for now.

Try change line 7, 9, or 18 in data/shortcutwindow.xml:
Code: [Select]
<minframe width="105" height="150" />I don't know why there are 3, but have a go changing each.

Some windows were given minframes because if you make them smaller the window start looking ugly as text will be clipped. The shortcut window has a minframe so it can't have less width than the individual buttons. It's good for usability.

The reason why the windows look a bit bigger for you, is because you play at 640x480. It's 2008 ;)
You can either remove the <minframe /> lines from the XMLs yourself, or play on a higher resolution.

I'll give that a try and maybe fool around with the font size so perhaps the text won't be clipped.  Not sure how its good for usability but I'll take your word for it.  The prior client allowed me to resize which i thought was very usable. If I find any fixes or changes that work i'll post them to this thread.

It's 2008??? what the...  :o  It's 2008 and I ony have 1 monitor is the real problem i guess.  I can't play planeshift exclusively especially when it becomes a grind, like mining or running long distances which can take 20 minutes in some cases. So I play windowed, while i read a webpage or watch a video with the window taking as little space as possible but with enough view that i see chat and don't fall off somewhere, which as it happens occurs even with full concentration  :whistling:  I had all the important boxes squished to the right and only had to use half the 640x480 screen and still play effectively and use the rest of the screen for a browser or vlc. Well that was in the previous client.  The new client I'll have to tweak I guess.  The only problem at 640x480 in terms of functionality is no group stats while in group chat, and giving/trading the open inventory button doesn't open a window (that i can see anyways) so i have to open a regular inventory window and drag and drop.  That i'm sure I won't be able to change as those windows are fixed as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the help, <mainframe/> lines begone! :D

the gui was made to work with 800x600 anything less [or even 800x600] might cause unexpected results. [also if you modify any files the updater might override them]

With 0.4 its apparently no longer possible to have the mainbar changing layout upon clicking the green button. Before, one could make it like it is now, two columns that is, or divided into a vertical and a horizontal row.. and one could also make it to be one longer horizontal row!

Is this still possible by any file changing tweak?

Still works for me like it did before.

What green button, Velh? There's a kind of "arrow" symbol which you need to click :)
