finding mines
« on: March 12, 2008, 07:08:12 pm »
I have / and am wondering how they find the mines , just think of it the person would have to run around and dig for each resource in each spot until you/they find a resource now that is very time consuming I am happy that there are people that find these places because I know I have tried and failed because I am not exactly sure of all and what types of resources are out there like the resent Platinum mine how was it found and Geeze who ever found it was pretty lucky or very very skilled at finding things like mines.

Some people have a prospect shortcut which is a list of /dig (ore) commands and they run around pressing it. You do not even need to stop moving to use it.

I am yet to come across, someone who has said they discovered a mine this grinding way.

Even with the shortcuts, the chance that you will hit a mine is quite low and, that most people know either by word of mouth or OOC.
Maybe the 1st person also found by a leak or another OOC method.

They can atleast colour the mineable rocks different, so that citizens have an some in game/natural clue ??

I've done it. It's actually not that time consuming considering that mines aren't usually very small.

Previously most of the minefields were in the black ground texture. Another clue is they were where the falling rocks audio effect was present.
I have found a few minefields using this method although I doubt I was the first to find any of them. One last clue is that often people will leave extra ore laying about so if you find some in the wilderness you can try digging there. Oh yes one more thing at least one npc has a quest where he tells you to get some ore and where to dig.

How did they do it in the old days? :/ There must we something we could learn from xD

Like a river with sparklies = gold. A rock with black stripes/spots is coal. Some rarer ones are Quest-only. It should be easier to spot(but harder then seeing a cluster of people mining :P)

JW, the poorest mines were found that way in 'the olden days'. The best ones were found by guessing and digging.

I'd just say ask around... It's far easier than trying to find each one yourself, and still IC.

Punctuation generally helps...

I found 2 mines, on my own.  One was already discovered, but it was still cool.  The other has the same kind of mine nearby.  But prospecting is still a fun thing to do while traveling.
